Level D
guys need help i've bin using hidefolderxp for the above mentioned purpose but the problem is it wont hide once u disconnect and reronnect the hdd. the folders are exposed again. is dere any software which would be helpful???

Well....just create a folder with space [alt + 0160] and remove the icon with blank one and place it anywhere. :P

No one would guess there is a folder.

I still use this method to hide *ahem* videos :P

Use TrueCrypt.

Create Hidden Volumes for extra safety. A Hidden Volume is stored within your Standard Volume, but its existence is concealed.

Just google it, else let us know.

split the drive and remove the letter used to access the drive. It won't show up anywhere unless you add the letter to access the drive again.

wow that trick works really!! :D

^ It will. But it has a couple of drawbacks. The thing is, you are not "hiding" the folder to begin with. You are just making it "invisible" :P So when you select using Ctrl + A, the blank folder will also get selected. It'll have a blue or gray outline just like any other selected folder. Also, when you select the list / detailed view, the details of the folder will appear against it. This might lead to suspicion

What is the size of your disk? How much of data do you want to hide?

  • To create a new partition, right click on my computer > manage > disk management > right click on the primary volume (the existing one) > shrink > (shrink it by a volume you want. Say 5 GB)
  • Once done, You right click on the newly created volume and quick format it so that it can be made available for data storage.
  • Dump all the things you want in that drive
  • When you are all set to hide it, all you need to do is go back to the disk management window, right click on the partition u want to hide > Change drive letters and paths > remove.
  • Once this is done, the drive disappears. If you want to enable the drive again, all you need to do is assign it a letter again Change drive letters and paths > add.
Sounds a bit lengthy but then again, no one usually goes around checking if you have an unnamed volume or not.

Ya thats right. :)

That's not "hiding" theoritically. You'll get caught even if you select "Auto Arrange" in view :P

+1 for TrueCrypt. as one of my friend is using it for his pendrive.

whenever I want to hide anything I use the System Volume Information folder..

I give access to my ID first on this folder.. and copy whatever I want to copy in it.. and once done.. I remove my access and keep system access on it.. so anyone clicking on it gets an error message and no one usually looks into this folder..

I used to use recycler earlier but that is not restricted by default..

using system volume information have an advantage.. it does not show up until you have show system files check in folder options.. and even if hidden files are on.. it won't show up..

its nice.. lill trick.

as already noted, making a folder invisible doesn't hides its 'outline'...so you change the attribute to hidden...but who doesn't know how to 'show hidden folders'....so you go a step further and make it a 'system' folder so that it won't show up even when you enable hidden files...to screw things up furthur change the extension of that folder (yes folders have extension as well) to make it a shortcut to recycle bin, my computer, control panel etc when clicked, then change the extension again to make it a folder...
.{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} - Recycle bin
.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} - Control panel
.{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} - My computer
.{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D} - Internet explorer
get an alternate file manager like Total Commander to change the attribute to 'hidden' & 'system' or changing the extension....
Of course its not as fool proof as hidden drive method but its a lot easier and with this vbscript you can toggle between the hidden/unhidden view with just one click...
