Hi guys, how to install apps downloaded to pc to my iPhone? Tried using itunes, it fails.. Is there any other way? My gprs connection is damn slow , so can't download to the phone directly.. .

i don't think u can install the apps via PC.. still try the iphone PC suite.. or the cydia will be even better (if u use wifi :))

Technically speaking you could do it, but it would be on border-lines of being illegal. :P

^ What illegal? Its perfectly legal! Set your country in App Store as India and create an Apple account.

Once that's done, download/purchase the apps and sync to the iPhone as Superczar said.

Worked perfectly for me on Vista with iTunes 8 + iPhone 3G 2.1

^ What iPhone do you have 2G or 3G? For iPhone 3G, you can install apps from AppStore (i.e. via iTunes only).

So, yours is a jailbroken iPhone. iTunes wont work for u.
Didnt the site from where u downloaded the apps give u a tutorial on how to install the apps on ur phone. Check with that site before looking for it elsewhere.

bah..itunes works perfect for jailbroken phones

Thing is, there is one official method of installing apps , via the itunes store (either from the phone or via the PC)

Unfortunately, there is a very clear lack of standardization on the unofficial methods..there's Cydia which works via the phone for 2.0+ JB phones, then there's installer (again via the phone ), then there's iPhone PC suite and what not...

catch is the lack of standardization means you can never be sure abt what you are getting, and the fact that many of the non official apps have undergone little QA testing .. there have been a few unofficial apps in the past that have broken many iphones (e.g Kate) since the unoff apps run at root level access with write access to many system folders

Frankly, unless you are very sure about what you want from the phone, and just want to play around with new apps, the best method would be to stick to the app store

They have a great breadth of apps, many of the good apps are free, and the paid ones aren't expensive either

I have Iphone 2G 2.0(JB).No issues with itunes. But able to install 10 apps at a time.Whenever installing more than 10 apps the phone hang and restart while using the appns.

Its not possible. I think it will check for some kind of authorization code on the machine . So in short, it can't be done unless you download it on the same machine in iTunes and sync it with your iPhone/iTouch

Pat- not sure if I understood you :P but do you mean you can still do it? If so, how???

Yes, we can do it. It involves patching iTunes :)

And btw, it doesnt have to be the same machine legally speaking. I think like iTunes Music/Videos, it can be used and synced on upto 5 machines.

Yes, we can do it. But as I said that would be actually illegal. So, should not be discussed openly :)

As in with iTunes itself or with 3rd party apps which I'm not interested in knowing about :P?

actually there is away of doing it, it involves send the file to the phone tru wifi ,its a little complicated so if u are a novice it would not be for u

No it doesn't check for any authorization code. Atleast that was the case the last time i checked. If any other computer has itunes installed you can download apps onto that computer and then transfer it onto your iphone. In fact you can use this method to transfer both free and paid apps.Ofcourse for paid apps it will cost money to download to itunes but ones downloaded it can be transferred to any no. of iphones .
