How to install skins?

simple just extract it using winrar :), next double click on the skin file

lolz, +1, the most helpful n straight forward answer after such a long time. :D

and regarding XBMC (well your XMBC would definitely be a typo or else take me wrong here in following steps)

Got to : XBMC>System > Add-ons > Get Add-ons > XBMC.org Add-ons > Skin

For downloaded skin files, you can install it using the "Install from zip file" option in the add-on browser.

Once downloaded and installed, you'll be prompted if you want to switch to this skin now. You can either choose "yes" now or navigate to System -> Appearance > Skin at another time to activate it.
Hope this clears you out with your doubts. :D

I tried this method on XBMC but it is not able to read that skin file.

Yes I was able to put the skin on WMP but it is not continuously in that skin. It changes the time i exit it even it is not seen in the skin chooser menu.

You can manually install skins with the "Install from zip file" option in the XBMC add-on browser. Skins are copied to the "addons/" directory in XBMC's application data folder inside a folder that is the name of the addon (ie skin.name). Here's an example of a skin directory hierarchy structure:

addons/skin.confluence/addon.xml

addons/skin.confluence/720p/

addons/skin.confluence/colors/

addons/skin.confluence/fonts/

addons/skin.confluence/media/

addons/skin.confluence/sounds/

Navigate to the .zip file dude, in case you have extracted it. There is no need to extract the d/l zip file.

And, beware.. some files are known to be not working. Only specific skins have been tested positive. Check this wiki.
