HOW TO: Orkut like in my WEBSITE

Hi

I have a question.

Like FORUM related site, we can use vBulletin or phpBB etc softwares,
I need to create a Orkut like sub-website for a College Website. This is NOT a FORUM.

There will be GROUPs based on Departments (open mode), Projects under those departments (sub-group, invitation mode) etc.

E.G. -

say there are General, Math, Computer, Biology depts. (anyone can join in these groups)
under Computer group there are working projects sub-groups - Micro Controller design, SQL engine design etc. But these sub-groups will be invitation mode, so that only professors and students working on that project can join these sub-groups, admin by site administrator, ME.​

As you may understand, designing such site alone by me from base will be :death:

Is there any ready made tool ?
BTW: college will provide me (as I am the admin, so I will provide myself) -

try a cms(content managment suite) like drupal or mambo

CMS is not applicable here.

CMS is for documents.

It will be hard to treat 'Peoples' as 'Documents' and manage them..... I have thought of it (mambo+portfolio component etc) but too much complex.

NEED, just a 'people management system'.

I think he wanted to say that infosys has started doing this type of work.

ie they will do this for you. So if u contact them they will give u a rough estimate based on your requirements.

Building from base up isnt really a tough job , u can do within 2mnths time

Shouldn't something like a wiki help you?? Its got the edit link that will help u post anything!! Personally it seems to be better than the orkut interface and wiki also looks professional and easier to navigate!!
