how to play avi in quicktime pro in win XP?

hi all,
whenever I try to play xvid/divx files in my quicktime pro player , I get a message "quicktime needs to download additional components"

when I click ok, It directs me to page where I can download codec packs like divx,xvid and others. But even after downloading and Installing them, I cannot use quicktime to play the avi files??

now I wanted to use QT to convert movies fr ipod... so is there any workaround to play avi files in quicktime (in windows XP)

also if not by installing codecs , then maybe by pasting some .dll's in the qt program folder?

any suggestion will be helpful...

Why you want to play XVID/DIVX files in Quciktime?

XVID/DIVX support in Windows XP on Quicktime Player is quite limited and you need to use proprietary codec like 3ivex(thrivx) if you want to see the video in it. Also, remember that if your Video contains AC3 audio then it might not function with Quicktime in this method.

Better use Media Player Classic Home Cinema or The KMPlayer

(Update: Didn't notice that you also want to convert your media files,for conversion you cab try tools like SUPER or Mediacoder or AviDemeux)
 
why get stuck on only one program?

there are many other conversion programs available through which you can convert your divx movies in mp4 formant which can be played on your ipod.
 
you need to convert avi to quicktime supported mov format

the software in this guide can only work on mac

if you do not want to convert avi to mov, you can also play avi directly on windows media player
