How to play the Guitar?

Hi,

Suggestions are invited from amateur as well as pro guitarists from TE. I want to learn the guitar from scratch. A sort of DIY. So any suggestions starting from the brand of guitar to buy, which one (acoustic, electric), any links from the net, any downloadable books, videos etc would be welcome. I have given myself one year to learn the stuff. I am looking at a step-by-step, DIY kind of instructions.

Get an acoustic worth 1-2k

get an instructor

You can find basic fingering exercises and chords anywhere online

practice as much as you can

fingers will hurt the first 2 weeks, get over it
