I was checking eBay US and saw the Blackberry Pearl 8130 for about 100 USD. In the description it says

  • Unlocked, ready to program and activate with any CDMA carrier.
  • Please contact your Carrier and check if they will Program and activate this phone before purchasing.
  • Phone comes with no Locks and no Logos.
  • It has never been programmed to a carrier but need to be loaded with carrier setting before use
So can anyone tell me how to get the Reliance carrier settings loaded on the phone? And after it is loaded, I hope you can just use a Handset Change card to activate the phone?

So if you have done this before or know how to do, please let me know.

You have to load Reliance PRL to this phone and then you have to repair E$N and program your MDN and MIN to this phone...can't be discussed openly...google is your best friend :)

^ Oh k. It says the ESN is clear in the listing. Have you done this before? Can I PM you for some more info regarding this? :P

Btw why is this a restricted topic, I mean it is just like buying a non carrier locked phone, but since the phone doesn't have SIM slot, have to program it. Is there any particular reason as to why it can't be discussed openly? :P

Changing E$N of CDMA device is illegal...E$N in CDMA equivalent to IMEI in GSM...I think you got the point ;)

But it comes with a clear ESN, is it necessary to change the ESN?

Each MDN corresponds to a particular E$N...

So in case to program it,you nEEd to change the old E$N with your E$N

and also enter your MIN no.

The ESN is clear in US only.it is not at all present in any of the database of indian operators.its as if the phone does not exist for indian operators hence to get it recognised it shud be programmed with an E#N that the networks recognise which is illegal. Hope u have understood now??

Thanks for the input guys. :)

The handset I have mentioned in the first post, is just like a new phone which can be provisioned by the operator. But the issue here is that, the CDMA operators here, ie Reliance or Tata etc do not allow foreign handsets to be used on their network and will not add the ESN/MEID or other parameters to their system necessary for the phone to work. Hence there is no alternative other than cloning and other not so legal ways.

I was going through another forum and there was a thread saying Reliance will soon allow foreign handsets to be registered on their network and just have to visit a Reliance World shop for activation. Hope they implement it soon. :)

Were you able to flash your phone to Reliance? Even I am looking forward to get a US CDMA phone flashed to Reliance. Thanks.

Just check the thread date and do a search buddy , there is a dedicated BSNL EVDO programming thread and 2 members with own threads who are registering sets on reliance for a fees .
