We have 4 computers at home. One desktop and three laptops. One of the laptops runs VISTA.

All other systems run Win XP SP 2.

Right now, I formatted one laptop and reinstalled XP.

Now, how do I get that laptop (it is using Wi-Fi) to connect to my desktop ?

I have set the workgroup name as "workgroup" in both systems.

Before I formatted it, it was working somewhat fine. I could detect the lappy from my desktop but my desktop was not detected by the lappy.

Any solutions ? I have 8 GB of files and folders on my desktop and I need to transfer it to the lappy asap.

easy...

a) seta writable folder on the desktop (New folder>right click>sharing>enable share with write access)

b) run a command prompt on the desktop and type ipconfig..note the ip address of the desktop (say 192.168.2.25)

c) on the laptop, open the run dialog, type "\\192.168.2.25" (replace with noted ip )

d) yu should see the newly created folder in a explorer window..copy your files there

hmmmm I found another way.

I clicked "Setup a home or small office network". It then said the LAN cable was disconnected, so I chose the box which said "Ignore disconnected hardware" and went from there and now, it's working.
