anyone has any idea or suggestion to make and ofcourse FULL INSTRUCTIONS ON THIS ISSUE OR EVEN LINKS MAY REPLY.

!!THANK YOU IN ADVANCE ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED!!

get a cross crimped cat5 cable and connect both pcs via the lan ports and run the home network wizard or whatever its called in control panel.. cant get simpler

first please find out whether this is twisted or not...bcoz i think without the switch...a twisted cable is needed!!!!

you use a normal lan cable to connect comp to hub/switch and a cross cable for comp to comp connection

the ordering of the terminals are different in the jack

any comp store sud have both types of cables

A hub is typically the least expensive, least intelligent, and least complicated of the three. Its job is very, very simple: anything that comes in one port is sent out to the others. That's it. Every computer connected to the hub "sees" everything that every other computer on the hub sees. The hub itself is blissfully ignorant of the data being transmitted. For years, simple hubs have been quick and easy ways to connect computers in small networks.

A switch does essentially what a hub does, but more efficiently. By paying attention to the traffic that comes across it, it can "learn" where particular addresses are. For example, if it sees traffic from machine A coming in on port 2, it now knows that machine A is connected to that port, and that traffic to machine A needs to only be sent to that port and not any of the others. The net result of using a switch over a hub is that most of the network traffic only goes where it needs to, rather than to every port. On busy networks, this can make the network significantly faster.

google for hub switch for more info

You need a switch. I am saying a switch instead f hub coz for almost the same amount you get a device that is expandable and better.

Then you need couple of straight through LAN cables. You can go to a computer vendor and specify him the length and he will make that for you..

SInce you just want to connect 2 PCs you can bypass the switch/hub. Just get a long enough LAN cable to connect both PCs. But for PC to PC connection this has to be a cross over cable.

Options-

1. Switch + 2 straight cables of appropriate length for LAN card to switch connection.

2. 1 Crossover cable to connect the LAN cards directly.

Just be careful to keep the cable length generously long enough.

Thanks! Renegade:hap2:

Thats just what I wanted to know:ohyeah:

Our distance is around 15-17 Feet So I guess A cross-over cable shall do fine.

Thanks for the confirmation would you please tell me what configurations you made in Network Connections (What type of conn and stuff).

set the ip address(control panel > network settings > double click your lan connection > tcp/ip settigs > properties) 192.168.0.2 in one pc and 192.168.0.3 in the other pc, subnet as 255.255.255.0 and just leave out other options

then just run file sharing wizard or what its called on both pcs and you will be good to go..
