guys, need a help...:)

what I have...

1. An assembled desktop running 24/7, Tata photon + HSIA connected to it via USB port.

2. A netbook.. samsung N140.

3. A wifi mobile ( planning to buy samsung Galaxy S)

Now, I need to access internet in my netbook and mobile when Photon Device is plugged into the desktop.

which device (Router) should I buy to do that?

saw this website... http://www.3gstore.in/

but, Im a bit sceptical about it and would prefer a regular brand.:ashamed:

will the regular basic routers workout for me or should I get a 'special' router with an USB slot for plugging in HSIA device?

please throw some ideas as Im a pure noob in networking stuff...:ashamed:

Edimax is a well known brand in the UK atleast.. check amazon UK, you'll find Edimax products top selling and having good ratings..

I must say that the prices are towards the higher side as the same models are available for around half price in the UK. the sellers are charging a hefty premium here..

You need to get a 3G Router, which will allow you to plug your Tata Photon+ Modem in the router's USB port and the router will dial and establish a connection.

3G Routers are now available in India.

I am using this model for the past one year or so.

^ you can also do one another thing which will be a bit cheaper.

buy a usb wireless or PCI Wireless desktop card which will cost you under 1k.

1)create a wireless adhoc network from control panel ---->Network & Sharing Center. (ON THE PC IN WHICH TATA PHOTON IS CONNECTED)

2)connect to wireless adhoc network on the PC on which it was created.

3)share the tata photon connection by right clicking on it & going to properties & select that wireless adhoc network that you created in the first step.

your wireless setup is done.

all you've got to do is connect your laptop & mobile to that adhoc network & internet will work on your Desktop/Laptop & Mobile but the speeds will not be that fast as you'll get in direct router but looking at the router's price it will not be 4 times slower too.

In this case, the PC should be always on. Electricity consumption by the router is relatively very less than a PC. In a few years time, you might be able to recover the money spent for the router.

yes,i know.

as OP has posted that his desktop runs 24/7 that's why i suggested this setup.

but it's all up to the OP as i'd done same setup but using laptop to reduce power consumption.

& OP has got a Netbook which consumes even less power than a laptop..

yup,that's it.

The router need not be 3G/3.5G capable. That part is taken care of by the dongle itself. The router should just be able to talk to the dongle to put it into modem mode and initiate a connection. I don't know about RTN13U but this is possible with most wl-500 series models with custom firmware. Koppell's firmware is specially made to take care of this but oleg/lly's firmware should allow you to do that too with recent versions
