No software can Upscale the SD to HD, only Hardware can do so and they too cost a lot and not every HD Upscaling Chip can do it efficiently. Better Hardware costs more. Moreover if the Upscaling chip is not efficient in its function then Upscaling the SD content leads to Pixelation and Bleeding of colors. I've a Samsung DVD Player with HDMI Interface and Upscaling capability to 1080i and HD TV but the Upscaling of DVDs doesn't results in any discernable change in picture quality, mainly one feels the contrast has been increased.
Never tried ffdshow, will do but better if got info on it prior to using it?
As for these things being a CPU, its a Universal truth but CUDA is gaining momentum and we could see such tasks being transferred to GPUs sooner than we think. :cool2:
^^ nope. It costs around $12. A very good player & yes it does support 'software Upscaling'.
But i feel, hardware based Upscaling might offer best scaling as we have seen it in XBOX 360..
+1 for neuview player.
I use the K-Lite media codec pack which comes with media player classic (MPC) which, AFAIK, will play your DVD's too. MPC is very powerful in it's capabilities and scales the input very well to your monitor native resolution.
Well, after reading lot about ffdshow, i came to conclusion that ffdshow is very good at decoding & scaling. However, it also has some disadvantages - it is very CPU hungry & presently doesn't support DXVA..
