I recently bought apc backup ups Model BR1100CI-IN
i need to know if i can use the auto shutdown feature some how.
the apc site lists this model as without auto shutdown feature.:(

pls help.

windows doesn't detect the ups

i want it to shutdown when the power cut happens and there is low battery in ups.

how to do that?

^ oops, just saw the specs on the APC site. seems there's no way to shutdown the pc automatically once the ups goes on batteries. This model does not have the option of usb cable through which it can send its status to the os. Sorry, but you will have to manually shutdown your pc whenever the ups goes on battery. :ashamed:

is their no way around this?

also if i could change my ups for 800-IN model (with auto shutdown ?) which costs me 345rs extra but has lesser battery backup, is it worth it?

edit:

does the 800-IN have this feature?

which ups has this feature?

These models have the auto shutdown software - BR1500-IN, BR1000-IN, BR800-IN, BE650Y-IN.

Edit: The whole Smart UPS suite has this feature too, but is expensive as its targeted towards servers.

thx a lot :)

it depends on the load and your usage. if you plan to run the pc during a 5-10 min powercut (or just shutdown the pc) its worth it. You can also think of the auto shutdown software as insurance against killing your hard disks prematurely if the ups decides to shutdown in a second without the pc getting time to save data to disk. Infact with just the usb cable from ups connected to the pc, you can make windows control how soon your pc shuts down in case of power failure. So for Rs345, its worth it i guess.
