Hello

I have my movies stored in my portable hard disk
When i copy the path of my movie to my chrome browser, the computer starts downloading the movie through internet onto my installed HDD instead of playing it.
What am i doing wrong?

Thanks for advising

.avi

The question of problems in broadcasting does not not arise because i am unable to play the file in my browser with downloading the same from my hard disk.
I have to be first be able to play the file in my chrome browser from what i saw on Youtube tutorials and thereafter only it can start broadcasting
The problem is that i cant play the file in my browser without downloading the entire file again from my external HDD to internal HDD
I can play the file easily when i use vlc player and play it to see on my monitor

Thanks for advising

Hello
I have the chrome extension
I am unable to reach the chrome extension stage because if I am correct the file has to first start playing in my chrome browser and then only i can click the chrome extension button and start broadcasting it
As i am unable to play the file on my browser, where is the question of chrome extension.

Is this correct ?

Thanks for advising

Hello

Thanks for the information
I was under the impression that Chromecast does no no processing on its own and is displaying what ever is being played on the computer screen as it is receiving decoded files just to display
If it processes the files, then its of no use for me as i need the facility of subtitles also for movies which are not in English.
So it cannot add a .srt file to the movie as i am doing on my computer using VLC Player
As such the only i can think of is WD live.
Basically I want to play movies stored on my external HDD in various formats with the facility to add .SRT files while playing
Can the members suggest any other more economical solution ?

Thanks for helping

As suspected, the format is not supported natively. You will need a third party extension for the same.

For local streaming, I used two options, one was the Videostream plugin or something similar - which I did not like, the second was a HTML5 browser which was OK.
