how "truly" HD is a 4GB HD rip ?

Thanks to all. I have a 22" monitor now but asking this keeping in mind the future when I might be taking 40 something or 51" screen. So would the picture look pixelated on those screens ? (asking just out of curiosity..) :)
So what I understood from the above comments is to AVOID 4GB 1080p releases on demonoid. I think I will go for 4.38 GB 720p ones. Thanks.
I am happy with 720p and the occasional 1080 p downloads right now. Anyway in India, they are selling HD ready TV s with no HD actually available. :)

Maybe you could try zooming in a little, so you loose little on the sides and u loose the black bars

For some reason i seem to be ok with the AR even after doing a stretching (read removing black bars). I do not notice much difference. :P
 
btw, just because the file size is large, say 12gb, and the media player shows resolution as full HD does not mean the quality is full HD. it could have been "upscaled" - check the meaning of that term "upscaling" :D

so, yea, you need a good ripper source for good quality... if you have a full HD display you can mostly spot the good quality ones.
 
^^ True...but upscaled released are generally not that large in size and upscaling i have seen is prominent in Indian movies and on Indian torrent sites. I rarely saw any English movies upscaled.
 
i downloaded some samples of 1080p,720p and blue ray rips to test on my new 22 inch monitor.They look very much alike.But 700-900mb dvdrips looks really bad.is there any way to increase the quality of these dvdrips?I have a huge collection and they look really bad on my new monitor.
 
^^ I think i am the exception when it comes to even 700 MB Rips. In my case i feel even 700 MB 1 CD Rips look really great on my 46" Sony TV. Probably i cannot differentiate or whatever but i am happy :ashamed: :P

Actually to notice difference between 1080p and Hd Ready contents one needs TV Bigger than 32".
22" that you have ,will not make noticeable difference.
 
btw, one thing i like to do is download the 1080p trailers of movies and compare with the whole ones to see if i'm being "ripped off"... erm... no pun intended :D

@OP: also check out free movie/animation 1080p clips like "Elephants Dream" and "Big Buck Bunny" and the upcoming "project durian" for true 1080p.

and i am able to make out the different between regular dvdrips, 720p and 1080p on my TN LCD...

Yeah that will do it, its not just the size of the screen as i thought earlier, the viewing distance is the more important parameter.

You would have to sit much closer, to see the difference, with a 46"

not further than 6 feet for 1080p and not beyond 9 ft for 720p.

The distance you are at currently is good for SD mainly, its too far to enjoy HD.

At 6 ft you will defnitely see the diff between 1080p & 720p :)

Do you have a GPU in your rig? What do you use to playback HD? kmplayer configured to used dxva results in 3-10% MAX cpu utilization for me in HD stuff.
 
i was just looking at a 720p clip of imax fighter pilots video. just 50 min and a full 10gb... and you can see the clear details in it...

ATI 3450. I use core player. Not all rips play in dxva mode. Imo, around 85% of anime rips are not dxva compliant.

Just recently got a tv series dvd's. Weird dvd's are double sided dual layered discs :S (First time I' seeing double sided dvd's)
The serial plays back perfectly upscaled in full-screen mode without any pixellation on 1680x1050 resolution. I'm sure it will look as crisp on fullHD tv as possible.
For quality, I'd choose a 720p 4gb file or a dvd iso or buy the original dvd over a 700mb/1gb rip that looks crap in fullscreen mode.
 
As for most the source is Bluray the rip is generally really nice. When you compare it with pure Bluray movie which will be around 50GB, you may find difference..But for same you need to have good system like big tv (40"n above) good sound system.

Or else when playing through computer (using hdmi port of tv) like I do... I find 720p's 2-4.5GB x264 .mkv files very fine and best !

Although I do have downloaded couple of 1080ps, which comes to 9-12 GB like Dark Knight, Cloverfield etc because they have distinctive quality for sure.. But I extend my TV to 720p resolution only.. :P
 
i go for internal 720p releases (6 to 8 GB) because scene releases (4.3 GB) tend to have blocks in dark scenes..and i cant see no difference between 1080p and 720p in my 24" screen..1080p internal releases are a whopping 12 to 16 GB.

What are " Internal releases" ? How do I find them ?
 
Anyone care to send me a link for pvt. tracker where secret_myth releases are available I have only seen them at TPB.
 
^^^Why do you want private tracker when it's available from public tracker? I use openbittorrent tracker and i get good speeds...
