Laptops HP 530 Fan spinning at higher speed, 101 Degree Temp...

Hello All,

Recently, I got my HP 530 Laptop's internal Fan replaced with a newer (Original) one. Now, here are the issues I am facing at the moment after this Internal Fan replacement:
a) The Internal Cooling Fan just keeps rotating at an extreme higher speed the moment I start with any basic task like playing music and surfing the internet with 2-3 tabs opened in IE Browser.

b) Since it rotates at much higher speed (I can feel the air pressure being disposed off from the left upper side ventilation by placing my fingers in front of it), I just keep hearing the Fan noise
continuously non stop which can become kind of annoying at times.

c)For once, it happened that when I shut down the laptop due to high temperature of 95 to 98 degree, and when I turn the laptop ON, it reaches the OS Boot Selection menu and than shutdowns
automatically. But this issue didn't repeat later.

d) Also, request you to kindly take a look at the below link for the screenshot of the CPU Temp being recorded at an extreme 101 degree for about few seconds before it came back down.

http://i46.tinypic.com/30az713.jpg

And when I touch the area near to the bottom air ventilation, I do feel it is hot. Not sure why, even though the internal Fan is rotating? However surprisingly, the left side ventilation area
disposing off air doesn't seem to be much hot.

e) Applications like Microsoft Word takes much time to open. Also, opening IE browser and the tabs takes much time to open then expected. Which means the system is running slowly.

And there is no sign of dust inside the laptop nor in the ventilation area as well. Everything is just clean.

So, what could be the issue exactly?

(I purchased this HP 530 Laptop in June, 2008).

The laptop is under the warranty, expires in December, 2010.

Kindly assist.....

Regards,
Apoorva.

as it's still in warranty i'll suggest you to get it checked via a HP technician..

tell them your problem & see what they can do for you..

otherwise if you don't care about the warranty then open your laptop remove the heatsink clean the old thermal paste & reapply the new one..

also check if the fan connector is installed properly..

You are running so many apps. God......see your notification area in taskbar. Did you used to run all these before also???

What are your specs???

that's not true, apps don't affect the proccy to overheat that much & if we consider what you are saying is right then also,it should not heat that much i mean 95`C i was like WTF..

Dear Naveen,

The heatsink matter has already been taken care of. And the Fan replaced is also a newer one and original.

And Yes, the FAN connector indeed has been properly installed, that's the reason why it is spinning to throw the heat outside.

But the concern here is that why it is continuously spinning and that too at a faster speed and making higher noise? And the moment if I try to work on 2 or more applications, the temp of the CPU will immediately jump to 90 - 101degree and it has reached 103 degree as "Max" till now.

Any other solutions please?

Dear Krishnandu,

Hi There! Here's my HP 530 Specs information as requested:

Configuration: HP 530 Notebook Windows XP SP3 & Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 (Dual Boot) Intel Core Duo 2.66 Ghz 2 GB DDR2 RAM 160 WDC SATA HDD (16MB Cache, 7'200 R.P.M.), BIOS Version: Hewlett-Packard 68MVU Ver F.07, 3/18/2008

And Yes, I did have these many applications running in the background before the Fan replacement as well but I BET, my CPU temp has never reached till 80 degree but now, the CPU temp has reached till 101 degree which I feel is a serious issue than no matter even if it stays on that for about few seconds and later drops down between 77 - 80 degree.

And as rightly said by Naveen, no matter how many applications are running in the background (Memory), it has simply nothing to do with the heating issue.

Well, the problem here is that the internal Fan provided in almost any of the laptops available in the market today looks more like a Toy therefore, I also questioned HP Technician for twice that how could this small looking toy (For a small kid to play around with) handle the immense heat of the laptop and that too when the product is highly compacted? Extremely Funny! :eek:hyeah:

So, any other solutions please...

I can now think of two things

1. Did you overclock the lappy (increase voltages or tweaked bios settings) ? if so revert them back and restore factory settings

2. Dust accumulation, most of the time this would be the reason for overheating. Clean with HP technician / clean it yourself.

Dear Techman,

No, as I already mention earlier, the laptop is free of dust from all areas.

I have an additional OS installed on this HP 530 Laptop which is Windows Vista. I'll try to work from there and see if the issue arises.

Apoorva.

I don't know whether this will make any difference or not for you, but I have HP DV6 laptop purchased in aug-09. Since then I got 2 BIOS updates from HP.

- So If not done, (Once run HP health check.) And update your BIOS.

May solve your issue.

- Also check for all your component's firmware/driver updates. And Aply it ASAP if not done.

Dear Apoorva,
Well i'll Suggest you to use more applications like HW monitor from CPUID & other Hardware Monitoring Softwares & record the temprature..
i want to ask a Question though Where do you place your Laptop while using it??
Also, one thing is striking my mind that could be an issue..
that is Fan Orientation i.e how is the fan installed?
is it sucking air from outside i.e INTAKE..
or is it throwing air outside i.e EXHAUST.

Regards,
Naveen.

Thermal paste/ thermal pads applied while changing the fan unit?

Claim warranty, could also be a CPU defect. Had a dell unit go bad last week after almost 3 years, required a CPU change to stop the overheating.

Dear Axeman,

Hi There! Thanks for your reply! Well, really not sure if this is CPU issue but HP is considering to change the Heat Sink now. Also, the HP technician did apply some Thermal Grease after cleaning the existing one but still, the issue is the same. Are you sure that the CPU in my case can be of a issue?
Kindly reply.....

Apoorva.

Dear Naveen,
Hi There! Well, I place my HP 530 laptop on a hard surface such as my dining table which can allow air to escape easily through the side and bottom ventilation. I am not keen on installing some other temperature measurement software.
In regards to your Fan Orientation question, I shall say that in my HP 530 Laptop, the Air In-take happens from the bottom and exhausted through the side ventilation provided.

Try to use RM Clock, it may help in controlling temps. CPU can be the last option for change.
