I'm planning to upgrade my laptop's RAM. Not able to figure out what exactly I should look out for.

Confusion began when I tried to insert an 1GB RAM taken out of a Dell laptop. It didn't fit in the slot properly. It was not a Dell branded RAM but Hynix I think.

How do I make sure it would fit my laptop before I buy a used RAM?

Beware, HP laptops are notoriously picky with user Upgrades.

However I see no reason why the RAM from the Dell wouldn't physically fit into the slot.

Try inserting the RAM at a 45 degree angle and gently pushing it down until it clicks into place.

The HYNIX RAM was a little bigger may be by 0.5mm. So it didnt fit the slot.

Would this fit in my laptop?
