Hp dv9000 Wireless Gone Kaput

I have a Hp dv9000 AMD laptop (17" one with the broadcom wireless chipset)

It was functioning fine till I started it up yesterday. The wi fi switch (hardware switch at the bottom left of the lower body) would move, but the light wouldn't turn blue (from amber)

this was the first time it happened, and the wi fi just didnt come on. I played around with the software, formatted and reinstalled. same issue.

today, i turned the switch, and it did become blue, but kept switching to amber for a fraction of a second. i guess, the wi fi has gone kaput.

can someone inform me, if the wireless chip is removal module, or embedded on the motherboard. either way, i dont want to open the laptop, but if its easily removable, and confirmed, then i can take the risk.

the other solution would be to use the expresscard slot.

NOW HERE is where i am confused. I want to buy a Wi fi card for the expresscard 54 slot (which supports expresscard 54/34)

will this netgear card work?

eBay India: NETGEAR 802.11g 54 MBPS Wireless PCMCIA LAN Card (item 170356615583 end time 18-Jul-2009 12:04:58 IST)

is PCMCIA the same as expresscard? Or should I pitch for the dongle (which I am uncomfortable with, since I dont like stuff jutting out from the laptop when I am working)

I just want to put in the card, and forget about it.

Please suggest me on both counts. Cheers!!

Cool. Now you can continue enjoying wireless mobility AND have your laptop smell good at the same time!! :D

On a side note, next time you're better off cleaning the contacts of the wireless module with plain old rubbing alcohol.
