I bought this scanner in yr 2003. Used it properly on win xp at that time.

But for last 2 yrs it was kept wrapped properly in its box n plastic.

Today i had to scan some important confidential documents which i cannot scan at others place so unpacked and tried putting it to use after a long time.

OS winxp sp3. I cleaned the glass properly though no dust was found but still.

First there was error installing the software as it kept giving java virtual machine error. Which got resolved via this link

In control panel under scanner and cameras it passed the default test and all seemed ok.

After that i tried scanning a minor small image but the preview itself looked pretty dirty so i tried another pic and same results.

Refer foll. images:

Left one is the preview before scanning and Right one is the image after scan completed.

Also after completion of scan the lamp doesnt comes to its original resting place but instead hangs either at the end of the scanner or in between with giving out a continuous weird sound as if scanner has hanged.

Refer foll. image, the freezing area is marked with red line.

Whats going wrong in here?

Due to no proper preview, m unable to set the dpi and resolution as per the document quality as i cannot preview the document in its original image form even if i do so.

i think the scanner circuit has gone bad. take it to a HP service center nearby and get it repaired. it costs about 300-500 bucks i think.
