Had a HSBC cc from 2007. It expired in 2009. after expiry i did not take new card nor sign for it. The courier guy (of bluedart or dhl) marked on his paper and the cc package that customer refused the card and went back.

Now I got a sms on my mobile for Rs 3009 today on that card. I called up customer care and after giving verification they say verification from my side is failing and tell me to hang up the call. I told them i'm not going to pay money and hung up the call.

As far as I know, i have given all the correct answers. What's happening

What should I do?

Try calling them again, probably a new person will pickup the call. BTW you can check online? It could be a pending amount.

When the card expired, did you clear the OS balance? Even if the amount is low the CC companies would add interest, late payment fee and inflate it a lot. Call centre is of no help in this case and will simply increase your frustration by being obtuse. Try visiting a nearest branch and sort out the issue.

no pending dues. All the bills were paid in full. Infact i had about 4000 points in balance which i could not redeem cause their site was going thru some upgrade.

I cannot check online too. problem came when i couldn't log on on their site even with my user id and password and the security key thing even when i had the card. so i had called up and requested them to cancel the card even before the old card expired.

But what i cannot understand is why should I pay when i do not have the card?

1. visit the bank for any possible solution or atleast they can provide you a statement.
2. Make the payment and then raise a complain with hsbc, if they are not able to solve it, write a mail to the banking ombudsman with all evidence.

Very necessary to get yourself clear, else this would affect your credit rating( will make it difficult to get loans).

isn't it BLACK MAILING (if some one 100% sure about NO DUE). Just because to keep Credit Rating good he/she force to pay such due. (no due in actual).

Though I agree with you to pay for Good Credit.

6pack,

do you received ANY CALL from your bank, after you REFUSE TO ACCEPT THE CC? How if you could find the courier company & take the Copy of receipt of your same shipment (from HSBS) to prove that it was NOT ACCEPTED by YOU.

Any details about outstanding payment like is it because of any purchase or partial payment or fine etc. etc also check the transaction date, if any.

I reset my passwords and logged on the site. it shows the charges are of annual card charges for my card as well as add-on card plus service taxes. :S

2k for primary card, 1k for add-on, and 310 as service charge. HSBC charges sure kill. Especially when i don't have the card in the first place.

There was a due of 10 paise which is shown in every months bill from a year. maybe cause of that they are charging the whole year's charges. But buggers did not take into consideration the extra paise i used to pay every month before that. cc companies suck the most. They even reduced my points in half cause i dont redeem those.

What bad luck!

Seems like only option is to pay the card charges including that outstanding 10 paise and put a request for card cancellation. And to think it was free for a life time.

@Emperor, that was more than a year back. So nothing can be done about that now. Even my company address where hsbc used to send the card has changed, so any new cards they send will go back. So i think its my fault for not making sure my card was canceled properly.

Update: Got it resolved over the phone. I don't have to pay any charges and they gave me the card for free for lifetime. :D

phew! that's a load off my mind now.
