what about pioneer and onkyo ?

Onkyo is good, not really seen/heard any Pioneer receivers so can't comment, but if your looking for lean dynamics consider Yamaha also.

Basically its like :

Pure Movies - Denon/Yamaha/Onkyo/HK

Music + Movies - Marantz/Sony (Unavailable here)

I've Yamaha RX-V550.... bought it for 18k from Heera Panna in Mumbai (gray). Amazing receiver for that cost. Even for music, it has kickass output (or maybe it's more because of Bose speakers).

I bought it around one year back, you might find better or similar deal now on new products though.

The STAR-1200ES for ~ 32k was my first choice, absolutely killer product!

Denon AVRF-1507/1707 are good. ONKYO TX-SR505 is good entry level. The TX-SR605 is seriously good but at about 35k.
