Planning on redoing my room, will be purchasing a HT setup.
Budget is 1 lakh or so..purchase in Feb.

TV - Philips 34" W/S CRT with HDMI + 1080i/720p - is this still available here? Should be ~34-35K, right?

Amp - Denon 1507 - ~20K.

DVD source - Toshiba 360 or Samsung HD950 - around 8K.

That leaves me ~35K for speakers. Was thinking of a B&W setup, but that might not fit into the budget, so.. recommendations? Was thinking of Wharfedale Diamond floorstander fronts for ~13K, rears for ~10K, and a woofer for 12K or so.. is this plausible?

Or should I just get Logitech 5500s.. room is kinda small..

In 35K, look for the wharfedale moviestar for HT. You won't get a Diamond 8setup in 35K. The Diamond 8.4 floorstanders are around 20k alone. Doesn't leave you with much for rear, center and sub. Or else look for low end jamos or something like that. Another nice option is sonodyne.

^Ok. But what about the TV? I want CRT for sure. Dad has a plasma, which I don't like too much. Is the 34" WS Philips available?

What is your room size?

Better go for Philips DVP5965K it costs 6k. I am using it and its awesome.

Logitech 5500s looks good, THX-certified, 500-watts

Some of you may have seen a review of several HDMI DVD players in the "Connect" lift out of the News corp daily last week. In that article the writer mentioned that a firmware update available from Philips addresses the lack of DTS support.

I'm that writer. Since then I've made a discovery about the Philips DVP 5965K that makes it a no go player. It has to do with its HDMI output, which actually reduces picture quality. See my article 'HDMI hobbled by poor DVD specification'. This player is mentioned towards the bottom.

I would suggest that you spend a little more and purchase a Pioneer or a Panasonic that allows you to set the de-interlacing mode manually.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.
