HTC had partnered with Beats Audio in August last year investing $300 million to acquire a stake in the company and offer Beats Audio headphones and sound enhancements in its mobile devices .
However , that failed to attract customers as expected and later HTC decided not to bundle beats headphones with its devices anymore .
Now , in a letter to stakeholders , it has been announced that original owners of Beats will be buying back 25% of the shares to have a total 75% stake in the company which is currently 50% with HTC .
HTC will still retain a "major stake and commercial exclusivity in mobile " and now Beats audio will have "more flexibility in global expansion" . By selling half of the stake HTC will get some much needed cash back .
