i am planning to buy a 40"lcd from samsung which shall be mainly used for watching cable and would be getting the signal from tata sky dth. i have heard that a HTPC can provide much better picture scaling and processing compared to analog to digital convertor built inside the lcd tv set. Is this true? has somebody tried this setup and what is the config? Apart from signal processing the htpc shall be used as PVR and for casual gaming.

Please advice a suitable config with compatible(hdmi out) gpu. Any other information regarding the whole setup shall be highly encouraging.

I doubt whether using a 40 inch lcd to watch cable is a good idea.Images may not look that great owing to its 40 inch screen size and widescreen format. Somebody plz correct me if i am worng here.

i have seen tata sky+ 40" lcd. I do agree that the image wasnt that nice as compared to regular 29" crt television. i suppose it was due to the the scaler built inside the lcd tv which upscales the incoming signal to native resolution of the screen(1366*768). As far as widescreen aspect ratio , tata sky has a option to get the output in 16:9 instead of regular 4:3. also when we are using the htpc to feed the signal, the aspect ratio can be easily changed.

The question is has somebody compared the pic quality using the gpu scaling algoritms like nvidia pure video with respect to scaler built inside. I hope if the capabilities of a gpu(scaling, deinterlacing etc) are utilized then we can get much better pic quality even on a large lcd screen.
