Airtel had begun rolling out their 4G LTE network earlier this year in India. Spread over Kolkata, Bangalore and coming soon to Pune and many other cities, Airtel is the first network operator in the country to introduce 4G LTE network into India. 4G LTE brings unprecedented levels of speed and stability to mobile network and data access offering speeds upto 20 Mbps download (that's probably faster than your DSL connection at home). Now that speed and stability will soon be in your smartphone rather than being accessible only from your 4G LTE dongle. Introducing, India's first LTE smartphone, the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE.
Huawei Ascend P1 LTE Full Specifications
The Huawei Ascend P1 is one of Huawei's higher end Android smartphones. It was released back in October, 2012 so it is fairly a new device. The internal specifications of the smartphone are nothing to laugh at either. Let's quickly have a look at what the Ascend P1 LTE packs under the hood:
Design
As you can see, the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE is a very powerful phone and is packed into a slim profile. The phone packs all that hardware including the 4.3" display into a 9.9 mm thick profile, and it weighs in at 135 grams. Good job with the phone and it's designing Huawei. The Super AMOLED display packs a very high qHD (960x540) resolution which allows for better browsing and easier reading on the device. Corning Gorilla Glass II will ensure you don't crack your display that easily, or get any scratches on it for that matter.
Chipset
The phone packs a TI OMAP 4460 chipset which has a dual core ARM Cortex A9 CPU clocked at 1.5 GHz. This keeps the apps running nifty. The graphics horse power is fed by the (aging) PowerVR SGX540 which still packs a decent punch. 1 GB of RAM enable smooth operations on Android 4.0 ICS as well as allow you to run many background apps and games without getting many hiccups (due to low free RAM issue). What really would have made the handset stand out among the crowd would have been the inclusion of Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 chipset (dual core Krait CPU and Adreno 225 GPU) which would have nearly doubled performance across all fronts over the TI OMAP chipset. Nevertheless, the present chipset isn't all that under powered either.
Camera & Battery
The 8 MP snapper at the back is powered by a dual LED flash (for better low light captures). The auto focus camera module is capable of shooting 1080p video (1920x1080) @ 30fps. A front camera is present too (1.3 MP sensor size) for video calling (and those self portrait shooting lovers). The front camera can shoot VGA videos @ 30fps.
The battery at the back is a 1800 mAh rated unit. While quite healthily big, we do not know how fast the LTE network would eat the battery up (which from what we've heard of LTE phones in the US, is pretty fast). Let's just hope for morning to night backup from the smartphone.
Internals
The ROM size on the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE is 4 GB. Internal storage probably lies at somewhere around 2.2 GB (user accessible). The internal storage can be complemented by using an external micro SD card of up to 32 GB. Internal storage is ample to allow users to install many apps and games without filling up the storage too soon.
OS
The phone packs Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed. Currently there is no word on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update but Ice Cream Sandwich is pretty cool too! Since this smartphone has only been launched globally as well, we expect it to be supported by being updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (and probably Android 4.2 Key Lime Pie as well).
Huawei Ascend P1 LTE Launch, Price & Availability
The Huawei Ascend P1 LTE has been launched in India, but it isn't immediately available. We believe it will take at least a week for the phone to be available. The pricing too is unconfirmed, but we are leaning towards a price tag of about Rs. 30,000 which nicely falls into the upper premium range of smartphones.
The Huawei Ascend P1 LTE will be made available across Bangalore, Kolkata and Pune where Airtel has already rolled out their TD LTE Network.
