I have Huawei E173u-2 modem bought from ebay [unlocked]. I was having problems with it & I started searching FW files for it & couldn't find exact versions.

The problem is speed [both UL / DL ] drops to ZERO after a minute. I thought the issue may be with modem and updating FW would help.

But,however, today when I connected it to my desktop [running XP], it is working fine ! No issues at all.

I tried re-installing drivers, mobile partner, in my lappie but still problem persists. So I guess the problem is with my lappie hardware or OS. I don't want to format my HDD & re-install my OS. So is there any solution ? So that I can completely wipe anything related to Huawei modem from lappie & re-install & try ?

@mods - please move it to correct section :)

I have experienced this same problem with my Huawei E122. It would work fine with my desktop (XP) but when used on my laptop (Win7 x64) it would just give a small burst of data and then nothing, even though it remained connected.

My solution, wipe laptop disk and load XP. Now it works without any problems, as it should have. And another side benefit of using XP is the close to 15GB of less disk space used.

bump.

now it has a new issue. The modem disconnects itself after some 50-60 mins everytime.

I checked my bro's, who also has same model, his modem also has same issue !

I tried in Windows 7, Windows XP & Fedora 12, the issue exists. I tried with different network modes [2G/3G] & different operators, the damn issue still there.

I updated firmware & tried. Still no luck. It's been more than 6 months, we bought it together from a ebay seller & I doubt he'd RMA it.

So what to do ? :(
