how is hunt key 550 w green star PSU for this system
phenom ii x2 550 be
msi r4850
2gb ram
500 gb hdd

my games are crashing randomly ..... after 10 -30 minutes.. not in graphic intensive but normal gameplay... i have ati ctalyst 9.6 drivers .. cannot update to latest 9.11 since its installer is restarting the system..
can PSU be the problem?
i ran 3dmark 06 and got a score of 10200 .. with no crashes.. and even ran it at highest settings .. no crash.. plz help me out ! :)
 
To answer your question first, Huntkey is another Chinese PSU with all specs bloated on sticker. They provide at least 100W less than what they claim, let alone the ripple. They even tried to bribe hardwaresecrets.com once for changing a PSU's review for their favour.

Simply don't buy that. I would recommend a minimum of Corsair CX400 for your rig.

So what is your existing PSU?

i get the problem ive shown above is that problem cqaused by bad PSU?

BTW, can you post the screenshots of CPUz, GPUz and HWMonitor?
 
M using the same huntkey 550w. purchased it a year back and it went kaput in 6 months of use. So got it replaced with a new one. And its working fine till now. My config is x2 550be, asus m3n78em, 2x2gb memory, 9600gt xfx 512mb, 500gb hdd. IMO the issue may be with your gfx card or motherboard. You dint mention ur mobo model and O/s. Did you tried different OS / updating latest bios ?.

Do you know about the power consumption of your gfx card ?. Its true that the Huntkey 550w can provide only 450w of continious power, and the peak is 550w, the fact of which is clearly stated in the spec label. So its a 450w only.

My brother is using a 9800gt with 450w Huntkey V-power and it has been working fine till now for the past 1 yr.

So first try checking another PSU in your system and see. Since you have mentioned that even non-graphic intensive games crash, IMO it must be some other issue.
