Forum Feedback Hypocrisy?!?

Dear All,

I've been following TE for couple of months now & there is huge disparity in the way the Forum/Mods function.

On one hand the users are not allowed to talk about anything modded/pirated in the console section but there is a sticky thread talking about how to downgrade/unlock your PSP etc.

Also, a hugely popular thread about eBay was recently locked.

Why this double standard?

^^Modifying a PSP doesn't mean that one wants to run pirated games. One might also want to run homebrew apps and is hence modifying it. India doesn't have an equivalent of DMCA so any modding is perfectly legal as long as you don't infringe on copyright.

Using a modded console is not illegal. Using a modded console to play pirated games IS however illegal. TE simply straddles the thin line between these two by permitting discussions on modding while disallowing discussions on usage of modded consoles for running pirated software. Simple as that.
 
ebay thread was locked for cleanup purposes and i guess mods did mention it in thread. It was opened again ( right ? )

so you are trying to say if i ask for "modified" files for a game to run rather than asking for a "crack" ...TE wont lock that thread......using crack is somehow modifying the game files right?

just beacuse the l33t guys supports modding means its legal ? ...why anyone want to mod his console if he dont want to play pirated games on it ? just for loosing warranty? or for hobby? or knowledge? :|

*sigh* there is a thread about sentence formation, search it and read it. it'll be locked anyways since it implies the use of pirated software

Stupid thread. There's a difference in modding my PSP which I have bought and using pirated games which I've stolen (too strong a word?).

One reason I rip my games is so I don't have to carry those umds. The other is I believe the batteries will last longer if the laser is not being used. Some do it for the homebrew apps.

the size of the psp homebrew community is immense, larger than you or i can even imagine. a lot of people think that it's basically the homebrew community which is keeping the system alive, and that without custom firmwares the psp would be dead.

you're right, most people only mod their system here to play isos. that, however, doesn't make modding the system itself illegal or something that shouldn't be talked about.
 
its just like discussion about µtorrent, azureus is allowed(how to use it, improve speeds,ratios etc)...but what/where from(to some extent) you download is not allowed to be discussed...
