I need some info on Infy

Okay!

3 months ago, Infosys came over, held our hands and gave us jobs. :)
I recently came to know that my training will begin from October 3rd in Mysore.

I don't really know how things are going to be when I step in there. People give me mixed reactions when I tell them that I'm taking up my career at infy.

How about some infy ppl here give me some insight? (i've read that there are a handful here in TE) I'd really want to know how the training program is. Does it really reduce your lifespan? :ashamed:

I also wanted to know the possible places where I can be placed after the training. I'm from Bangalore.

Considering the fact that I still have 3 months of my lifetime to sit at home and reflect on my karma, is there something worthwhile to do? I was thinking of registering at this site called elitmus and take up their exam, with hopes that I can make it to a "better" company. Is this a good idea?

IIRC greenie had great fun playing CS 32 player in the training camp :P

Lotsa ppl here are from Infy and have attended Mysore training camp :P
 
Most trainings happen at Mysore (mine happened at Hyderabad).

Take this as an extension to your college life. You will love the training period. You will stay in hostel, be in campus full day. The campus will enchant you, it is just too big and beautiful.

Training period varies as per your background of education. If you are from computer science background it will be less months else more. Training at Infy is actually very good.

Mixed reactions depends of what one has experienced in his job at Infy. So it will be different. It ranges from bad (small screw ups) to worse (bad ratings in appraisal or no onsite for quite amount of time) to good (appreciate etc) to best (getting an onsite).

There is no benchmark as such.

You will be have to fill options of your preferred locations but THERE IS NOT GUARANTEE that you will be placed there. All depends on requirements but there is a very good chance to get in Bangalore Itself.
 
Thanks for the info. I'm from teh IS background. So I suppose the training is gonna be for a max of 3 months. :) And yeah, i did hear everyone say that its gonna be the "9th semester" :P Most of my friends made it through to infy. So I guess they'll all be with me during the training, which is good. I've been in Bangalore all my 2 decades of life. I don't mind moving out to places close by like Hyd (not far far away, though) which is why I asked about the placement.

Go for it man...Infy is lotssa better than other top listed IT companies...
Training sessions are just for fun man..Its just to make u recollect wat u studied in colleges...Consider training periods as part of ur college life and njoy bcoz once u get into sum development project, ur life is almost dead!!!!!

Hav one of my friend who paid 50,000 as deposit at PATNI and the time he was putted into the project, he resigned from the job without worrying abt his deposited amount..
 
And its right opposite of where i am sitting now and typing this. :D. Heheehehehe.

A friend of mine just completed training and got posted in Trivandrum itself. She said it was ok.
 
IINM Bangalore is saturated and Mysore is expanding. So might get a good chance of getting posted in Mysore. Just 3 hrs drive right :)
 
^^Nothing like that. I got placed in Bangalore after my training inspite of choosing Pune as first option.

Also incase you are not in normal driving distance (3-4 hours) of your home city, it wont matter if you get Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Jaipur (still not fully operational), Chandigarh etc etc because you wont be going to your home city for more than twice a year (except if you are home sick and prefer to go very often). I know of someone who used to travel from Hyderabad to Mumbai every 2 weeks.
 
Man opt for PUNE location as well..M working with WIPRO just opp to Infy in Pune..Anyhow, they ppl will always ask u ur preferred location for convenience and throw u at some different location..

I opted for Mumbai only..But later they asked me to transfer to either Banglore or Pune..I opted for pune...
Visit Mumbai every weekends..
 
3 years back I've been to the Infy campus when I was posted at the L&T for the initial training for a month and a half. Needless to say, their campus is HUGE! And more like a complete habitat - has everything one can ask for right from supermarkets to sports courts/grounds to floating restaurants/Pizza Hut/Dominos outlets at the food court to a frigging IMAX theatre with 4 screens!

They were showing TDK (circa July-Aug. 2008) when I was posted there and could not get an entry citing only the employee and his/her parents (not even siblings lol) can get entry passes for the theatre. Took a round of the campus and went back. :P
 
^^The theater is not Imax and is closed now from the last information i have. And yes it is a habitat in itself. I am in Pune campus and we have normal foodcourts, one of which is 24 hours, a 24 hours filter coffee station (not those machine which is there on every floor), 24 hours CCD outlet, dominoes pizza, subway, a medical store, food bazaar and other shops, indigo nation outlet, vodafone store, airtel store, doctor's clinic, ICICI Bank and many more :)
 
^It used to be an IMAX theater AFAIK. Not the dome as was the case of IMAX Wadala. It is a multiplex having 4 screens.
