Forerunner
Airtel Broadband, on a Beetel 220BX lan modem.
I have no experience in setting up a wi-fi hotspot or wireless internet access or whatever it is that is required to take my PSP online.
So thanks for any help.

Does anybody have any experience in exploiting wifi hotspots in cafe's :P

Went to Barista, and Cafe Coffee today to check for some hotspots and I did find one signal in each of them. Put everything on automatic and tested the connection, it did find it but failed to retrieve IP Address every time....

It's not really 4.5k. It's available out here in Pune for around 3-3.2k, maybe less, depending on the store you go to and your bargaining skills!! If you want something cheaper, there's always the D-Link & Netgear routers, although I'm not very familiar with those models since I've never used them. But they're all more or less the same really.

Never go the Dlink way!!!!! I did (trying to save money), and god have I regretted it every day since.

I have used WRT54G before (back when it was linux based as is the current GL) and it was simply amazing. No problems ever.

Just make sure that you don't buy the newer versions of the wrt54g that are available in the market. They suffer from frequent connection drops. You also don't have the option of loading in alternative firmwares (other than the micro edition from dd-wrt). This is coming from personal experience. I had a hell of a time with it and got it replaced for the wrt54gl. Flashed the dd-wrt firmware and its working like a charm. touchwood. :)

ps: you can check the wikipedia page for the version numbers.

Chip India has suggested Asus WL-520G in their latest issue. What do you think of that?

The WL530s good I've tested it much faster than the WRT54G...

I will be getting a laptop in Jan, 07. Will also buy WiFi then. So eagerly waiting for your test results Vandal!
