Hi all , this is my first post here.Hope its going to be a great place to spend time .
First of all, i want to buy a laptop. My budget is around 50k rupees (well,my parents allowed to go up to 65k, but i value money, and i don't want to do it unless there is a significant feature in that laptop)

I am going to join TCS as a fresher Engineer, i don't know if their work requires any certain specification that i should have in my private laptop.

I want 500(>400) gb 7200 r.p.m HD ,p8700 processor (2.53 would be good), 9 cell battery...and a very good multimedia performance(i am not a gamer, but i watch movies like an insane person) and good servicing.

I really wanted to buy apple ( i fell in love when i bought itouch)...but specs as well as service is a big question there...i don't know about dell's servicing too(besides everybody is saying bad things about dell's sound quality)
Plz give me some brotherly advice....i am puzzled ,every company has pros and cons both.It seems to be a very difficult task

FYI i live in kolkata

hi!!

amarbir singh --from lynx posted about this lennovo thinkpad--14.1 inch model--thinkpad x400---check it out--really good laptop for 37-40thousand rs.

i could not find x400 , are you talking about t400? the price is around 61k on company's website .

Why thinkpad laptops are this much overpriced?

Before buying a laptop, first check with someone at TCS and confirm that no laptop will be provided to you during your training period.
Because most of the time, the companies themselves provide the laptops. But I am not sure if they provide it during the training period or after they have been made permanent staff.

@socrates Check your PM. I have sent you a private message.

yup ... no Laptop given during training period at TCS :) ... but you also don't need one

if u still wanna buy then go with Dell Studio 15 with new i7 720QM processor config with Corporate discount (TCS) and you can get it around 60k shipped to you :D ... but you need TCS email ID activated for that

@Socrates, TCS won't be providing you with a laptop during your training for sure. Maybe, just maybe after your training is over and you are into a project that requires you to be On Call 24/7; they might give you a company laptop.

Disclaimer: Not associated with TCS or its subsidaries.

We had a seminar conducted by TCS in the 4th yr, and the person who was the HR head of eastern zone told us we will be provided with a laptop.
But i have not heard of any similar news since then.

BTW, i have narrowed down my choices to these 2 - dell studio 15 and sxps 13.Which one would be of your choice?
And can you tell me a little bit more about the corporate discount, i don't have a TCS id as i will be joining in the first week of november.

go 4r dell u will also getting 10% discount if u take 3 yrs complete cover
u just need to give them ur tcs email address n say u r working 4r tcs
