Its a pretty laptop with good build quality. Yes, obviously the newer 9600 GPU is due...

I have it....if you buy it online you can bargain for a 9cell battery for closer to the same price.

hey vij...
thnx for commenting..

but the main problem m facing is the graphics card....
will it cause a lot of problem..
or the news of all those faulty chipsets is still for the new batches...????

Look at the HP dv5 1015x. I bought one for my sis just 2 weeks back. Great config, better than Dell's and at a better price to boot. Also it looks very sleek.

hey techie....
ur comments have been like pacifiers to me.....
just tell me that we dont have any probs wid 8xxx cards ....
n as far as the high end 9600 is concerned...
i m not that a gaming freak....
and 8600 wil work almost fyn for all the games i think....

????suggest...
and also if we talk to online dell cc, whats the bargainin scope???
is it real that we get discounts???

As per latest updates, all faulty GPUs were recalled. All newer laptops are coming with redesigned GPUs where the faulty component has been fixed.

The solution Dell offered is a stupid bios update that keeps your fan on, thereby increasing noise and reducing battery life if Im not mistaken. No hardware changes.

@vij: That referred to existing notebooks in the market which had bad chips.

NVIDIA fixed the issue in newer cards. So these work fine where older chips failed. N i am NOT talking aout the fan fix :P

refer to:

M1330 GPU fixed... more info. - Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion

Also, as per some ppl i know at nvidia, they fixed the issue long back :P

If this is true then its strange that Del has not made any official statement regarding this.

laptops replaced as recently as Sept stil have that problem.

Does it mean Del knows its defective and is replacing the faulty laptops with refurbished faulty ones until the poor customer runs out of warranty.

I bought my XPS M1530 in Sept. Wonder if I got the good one.

They wont. Cos their first statement said they had 'fixed' it. + NVIDIA isnt branding the newer cards any different with a revision number or anything. So no separate announcement.

makes sense tho :P Dell and everyone else is going to pass on the COMPLETE warranty/replacement cost to nvidia (thats why nvidia had a loss after a long time inearnings ;)), Its in their best interest to minimize that.
