Can someone tell me how good the university is? And about the campus, job opportunities for the MS programs there. All opinions welcome. Thanks.

Raghu.

I'm assuming your talking about IIIT -> International Institute of Information Technology, right ?

If yes, then its an excellent university, at NIT standards..

Infact our very own senior TE member Chaos completed his B. Tech, M. Tech and PhD from IIIT Hyderabad :P

No he is not. I2IT is I Square IT. BTW Chaos is still doing his PhD I thought.

I can't really comment on that institute even though I am in Pune. It is pretty uch outside the city and very little is known about it outside.

funny thing is that, you dont really need a high profile college to go abroad. One of my relatives studying in MIT pune, got into Stanford this year with M.S mechanical engg as his major.

Students from university as bad as mine - Gujarat university get into colleges like MIT (Boston) with repectable academics and good GRE scores.

I was also thinking of doing the M.S Program there, but dropped out as the institute was relatively new that time (2003).

I2IT of pune is ok ok. Better ones are at Hyd and Bangalore.. I myself gave Bang exam.. But probably i would not clear the interview ( i cleared the written ). Still awaiting results.

I2IT is still in nacent stages. Placement is ok ok. I mean most of the programs are sponsered by some companies themselves and are specific to those companies only. But if u can study well then i think its a bit more than avg.

Better option is IIIT Bang with good value, and placement (100%) and hyd is very good.

Thank for the opinions. And my friend wants to do the MS program in Advanced Information Technology (MS in AIT) with specialisation in Oil and Gas. Its offered in an agreement with Gubkin University, Moscow. Any idea abt the course?

Raghu.

Josh, Dont confuse between IIIT Hyderabad-Bangalore and I2IT (pronounced ISquareIT).Both are different institutes and are no way related to each other.

IIIT was setup in 1999-2000 and ISquareIT in 2002-03.

^^ I dont know if i mixed it... But IsquareIT's full form is International Institute of Information Technology and thats the same is IIIT Bang and Hyd.. But all of them are independent institutes and are not even related to each other...

IIIT Hyd was setup in 1998(my batch :)) and is easily the best of the bunch... Okay I'm biased :P. Research quality in IIIT-H is top class and in computer graphics and vision, its the best in the country... IIIT-B has a few decent professors but not all faculty is very special... better to go to IISc than that. I've never heard of ISquareIT but IIIT allahabad is also very good.

Chaos is right, Me too consider that IIIT (IIIT-H and IIIT-A) are best when it comes to computer vision and AI. Only thing is that Since IIIT-H is not government funded now (Its International Institute of Information Technology) , the fee tend to be a bit high which is why I could not join IIIT-H. I did my M.Tech in Intelligent Systems from IIIT-A. The fees here are low at about 18k per semester and we got a stipend of 5k per month. These two institutes although started in 1998 and 1999 are in the top 20 list of colleges and alongside institutes which have 40-50years of history.
I2IT is not in any way related to IIIT-H and IIIT-A and is a completely private institute. I heard good comments about it in the first two years after its started, but did not hear any thing about it later.

Ofcourse IISc would be the best if a person makes it inside...:ohyeah:
I myself attended the interview for M.Tech in computational science there. Out of the 250 odd people (with GATE score abave 95) called 4 were finally selected. Direct selection is even worse as the cutoff is like GATE AIR 15.

Were you looking for an MS by Research or MTech? If its the former, you'll be funded completely and don't need to spend a penny :P.

I am talking about M.Tech for which the fee at the time was around 60k per semester...:hap5: .

Im into IISc for that matter :D Only good thing ive done in my life. Hope to have great fun the next 2 years doing my MTech there.

This is for my friend though. Any info abt the specific program i have mentioned - MS AIT in oil and gas?

Raghu.

 Isquareit is no way related to any of IIIT's.All the IIIT's are deemed universities offering B.Tech & Mtech programs.

Isquareit is a privete institute not even approved by AICTE & not affliated to any university offering job oriented training programs, something like NIIT.

More over they charge more than 3.5 lacks for 18 month course which they take in the begning of the course itself.

Feedback about it academic standards, placements and student quality is very bad
