CPU/Mobo i5 vs i7

Actually for performance users, LGA 1366 makes more sense even today.

This is the platform that will first get 6 core+ chips. And those are not far away. Its coming in Jan and if you wait for couple of month which usually makes sense for prices to settle just a little bit, you can put those chips in current X58 boards.

i7 on P55 is waste of money. If you are buying P55, stick with i5 at this point as then only this compromise for VFM makes sense. Otherwise invest in X58. And life is much simpler and easier on X58 if you intend to take your chips beyond 4Ghz.

I completely agree with Aces120 about the fact that many of us do not just upgrade the CPU and usually tweak a number of other items in the rig when upgrading.

Keeping in mind that I am running my rig on an Rampage II Ext., I would probably swap out the board and the CPU if I were to upgrade to the i9. By then I would expect a far better / evolved base available for the CPU to run on. For the moment though I am quite happy with the setup.

Do u expect prices of 1500$ gulftown to setle at 300$ in a couple of months ??

Yes i agree with u that spend

There won't be any applications to take advantage of 6 cores and even now games are optimised for tri/quad core not designed for them.
