Hi guys,
I was planning to spend around 70k for a gaming desktop...

My main question was :

Should I get a an i7-860 rig with dual channel memory( I wont be using gfx cards in SLI, I prefer single gfx card solutions)
or
Should I get an i7-920 rig with triple channel memory.

As far as I have heard from a friend of mine, the memory is very important for gaming and does the 1366 have better scope for the future....

My second question is:
If I get the i7-860 buiild, I can buy an ATI 5870 but if I buy the i7-920, I will be able to only buy a gtx275...

Do u think its better to wait for GT300??? If the price will be uber high forget it and I personally think that dx11 would take a lot of time to get into mainstream gaming which is why I should only take what is available at the moment and not wait for eternity....

Platform wise LGA1366 would be better since we know Gulftown will be LGA1366 compatible, though on shorter term, buyer a better graphic card like the 5870 is far more important than the CPU.....

I think the i7 and 275 setup will be good enough for the next year at least. After that, you'll prolly just need to upgrade the GPU (if at all) and not the whole shebang.

Gulftown will be DAMN COSTLY ....

One can expect core i9(Gulftown) in 60K range....

SO no point in shifting to 1366 platform...unless you increase your budget heavily...

For the time being its better to go for Core i7 860 cos its pure VFM and beats Core i7 920 in most of the task according to reviews on internet!!!

i7-860 has better pci-e controler but i7-920 has better performance due to tri channel memory.New cpu based on socket 1366 would be coming so it would be future proof .At the moment i7920 is available at better price and DDR3 ram prices also have fallen much .I7-860 is a better if you are avalable to find a cheaper motherboard as Cpu itself is costly

Any proof that i7 920 will perform better cos of tri channel memory?????

+1 to ATI 5850, which is available for 15.5k-17k depending on where you pre-order from. It beats the GTX285 and is the most VFM single GPU in the 10k+ range.

Imo i7 860 is better than i7 920 as its setup is damm costly...'

Secondly phenom 2 955 or 965 is also a good option in this budget...'

Now can anybody tell whts the price of a i7 860 procy...?

x58 architecture is more efficient than p55, its a known fact, go and check for comparisons on your own???

I voted for the i7 920 setup but the only change you can make is the gfx card.

Why not go for ATi 5850?

Because Its about 130$ more expensive than the GTX275.

i7920+EVGA Mobo+6gb DDR3-GTX275 = 840$= Rs. 42,000 which is not bad at all...

Ok, agreed that the i7-920 costs more...
But looking at the future, I can upgrade to a newer CPU without changing the mobo.. ALso, X58's have x16 for both SLIed Gfx cards and not x8,x8 like the P55's.....That way its pretty much future proof...

Therefore, if I get a GTX275 now, It will play everything at max settings except insane Crysis at insane settings, true, yet I can get another gfx card next year if need be and not be stuck with a P55 which wont provide the x16 firepower in SLI....

Anyone contests against this?

In the P55 setup, I will be saving about 150$ at max over the i7-920 unless I go for the i5 which is another 100 bucks off but it doesnt have HT which I dont wanna let go imo...Since Im already spending so much...

Rest of the stuff(cept the Lycosa MIrror and some other Razer merchandise) I will be buying from SMC International, Nehru Place...

Can Anyone further counter my plan if it doesnt make sense anywhere?:cool2:

go for i7 920 if you'll be gaming hard & yes wait for 300 Nvidia Series.

Im not a hardcore gamer....but I still want a nice PC for playing games at max:P Maybe, Ill become one with it, who knows....

Are you buying from newegg? For P55, why not consider the Xeon X3440 Newegg.com - Intel Xeon X3440 Lynnfield 2.53GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Server Processor - Processors - Servers

Lynnfield with 2.53 Ghz and HT. Should OC to about the same level as the 860 but at 40$ cheaper. The MSRP is actually 215$ only but the price is jacked up a bit currently

Oh and for graphics i would recommend the Radeon 5850 too, at 260$ its a much better buy than the 5870 or any GTX

Edit: whats the resolution you will be playing at btw?
