Hi All,

I have got two pcs

system 1 is

Quad core Q6600 @2.4 Ghz with 4gb ram
and

system 2 is

intel i7 920 with 6 gb ram

but while copying files (95GB) from hard disk to my portable hard disk quad is copying at a CONSTANT RATE of 22mbps and i7 only at 13.5 mbps

can any one plz clarify this.

thanks

In the second file transfer the hdd must be slower... use tera copy to transfer file... hdd transfer rate mostly depends on hdd transfer rate not cpu much.

It depends on a lot of factors like the load from other applications on the processor, the speed of your internal hard drives, the size of the files you were copying.

in above all factors , size of the file really matters..large size single file will be copied faster than same size folder with many small files..

File Copying Performance would depend more the following CPU/RAM.you don't need so much horsepower for a simple task like file-copying

* SATA mode: check if you are using compability SATA I mode, instead native SATA II @ 300mbps speed

* The Hard HDDs(both at source and destination)

* The File system(On Windows, you should be on NTFS)

* Type of Data to be copied. a) One big file = less time b) lots of small of same size = more time

Would that mean putting everything into an archive and copying that archive will be faster than copying the files individually?

hmm nice thread but the problem u can use another application just terra copy will copy faster and improve if possible or u can use usb on side of the motherboard for extra power juice it up :)
