Hi,

Sorry if this is the wrong section to post, I was confused as to where to post this thread.

My Question is regarding ICCWorld.com's Shipping Calculations, I recently purchased a product costing about $27 from Amazon.com to PPO Address in NY.

I got an email from ICCWorld that my total Due is Rs. 1323/- which is actually 100% the price of the product. so for a product worth Rs.1300/- I would have to pay 1300/- just as shipping which will kill the product's low price.

The Product weight is 2.1lbs.
the product is a OBDII Bluetooth Device

Not sure what to do, I sent them email on Monday regrading this & haven't heard from them yet.

Shipping cost depends on the item weight and not its cost. This item is close to a KG, so I think shipping will be around 800 or 900

Item Type: Car Accessories

Package Weight (lbs.): 2.1

Shipped from: Amazon.com / Vandalay Imports & Exports

Insurance: You have opted to not insure this package over $100.

Total fees for shipment are below:

Item Actual Weight Including Volumetric: 842

ICC Shipping, Handling & Taxes:

Duty & Clearance Fees: Rs.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Total Due: Rs. 1323

This is all they gave me in email. no details on Pricing just total price.

In the mail its written your actual chargeable weight is 843g, so you will be charged for 2 lbs ie $10 + 6$ = $16 ~ Rs 800 + tax = Rs 890.

The customs duty for car accessories is about 27% which will to come to about Rs 330, that makes it about 1.2k. Maybe they charge a customs handling fee as well.

@ OP

If you want OBDII scanner you should have purchased it from dealextreme for 22$ with free shipping and adding 2$ you can it shipped by registered airmail.

It is even cheaper from ebay.com. There are sellers from Hong Kong who ship worldwide and this cost about 18$, you pay them 3$ extra for shipping with tracking.

I don't trust ICCWorld. Their practice regarding Custom Duty seems dubious to me. They charge you duty but I doubt Customs charge duty for such low value items. At least mine was duty free. Ask them to provide a copy of bill of entry and copy of challan for duty payment.

Shop and Ship is slower but very fair in this regard. They provide copy of bill of entry and copy of challan for duty payment by default and if by any case duty is overcharged you can get a refund from them.

^ I ordered a Bluetooth one, the one on DX is not the same. (edit Found it)

I have sent ICCWorld about 2 emails now one to their NY office & the other to the mumbai one, No replies from either of them regarding the same.... Its like they expect you to pay NO Further questions asked.

I'd rather order from a different site that ships to India instead of paying 1300 to bring the product from NY to Mumbai. anyway i can ask amazon to take back the product or should i just leave it there at the ICCworld's warehouse.

The product has reached Mumbai already. So I don't think returning to Amazon is an option. They send the mail once the item has cleared customs and ready to be forwarded to your local address from Mumbai.

^ it has not reached Mumbai. They gave me a tracking Number which says its still at NY warehouse & awaiting payment.

^ That's weird. I get that mail usually when the item has reached Mumbai, don't rely on the tracking much. Its not updated that frequently.

Anyway did you call them, asking for the exact splitup? What did they say?

These are the terms & conditions. This is a copy and paste of email received after payment confirmation.

Shop Abroad is an intermediary between the US retailers and the Indian buyer to facilitate online purchases for Indian buyers from US-based sites. We have no knowledge of the the features, quality, etc. of the items you request to purchase. Shop Abroad will only guarantee that you receive the product as described in original condition with no damage during shipping. Shop Abroad will compensate buyers with a full refund if they do not receive their items within a reasonable time frame (within max. 30 days, unless delay was specified by the seller at the time of purchase) or of the item is damaged in transit. However, for all other issues, the item must be returned at the buyers expense to the original seller - though this is an unlikely event, in this circumstance Shop Abroad will facilitate the return, but the buyer must bear all return shipping charges.

No It still shows me that its at NY and awaiting Payment.... it was last updated at 4th Oct.

I don't feel the need to call them up, they should have replied to the 2 emails i had sent asking for the details on how they arrived at that price point, Which they didn't so I wont be using ICCWorld from now on.

@aasiminator - But I always receive the invoice once the package reaches Mumbai, even yesterday I got an invoice for a package, made the payment immediately and within few hours I was given a BlueDart tracking number.

But anyway I don't understand the issue here. The package obviously weighs 2 lbs and the major part here is the shipping cost ie close to Rs 900. And customs duty @ 27% approx Rs 350. That makes it very close to the amount they have asked.

You should have calculated these costs before making the purchase, instead of blaming them for over charging which I don't think is the case here. I agree that they are not as transparent with the duty calculation, shipping cost etc as Aramex but if you calculate yourself you will find its almost the same.

^ I only received one email from them that the they have a product delivered to their NY warehouse, and awaiting payment so they can ship it to Mumbai. I got no further mails from them.
i am still waiting for them to email me the details so that i can make the payments, but its hopeless as it seems. All i've asked them is to provide details on how they arrived at the price, is that too much to ask? as a customer using their service its their responsibility to give exact work outs; even though as per your calculations the price seems to be close to what they asked but its not exactly what they asked.

I have no problems in paying the 1323/- but i wont do it unless they give me the exact details of the same, even if it means buying another product from a different site altogether.

This is what i got quoted from Shopabroadonline

Quote: Rs 2,616.00

Item price + local shipping + taxes RS. 1,482.30

Int'l Shipping RS. 550.00

Duty, Taxes & fees RS. 583.81
TOTAL RS. 2,616.00

^ You need to use the JustShip estimator for PPO packages -- http://www.shopabroadonline.com/justshipcostestimator.asp

But usually the final cost that I had to pay is lesser than the estimated value. Few days back I got a mobile phone through ICC PPO and I had to pay only Rs 1072 for a 2lbs package including customs. Value was $250. The same thing when I estimated using the calculator came to Rs 1268, maybe they include the insurance cost too in the estimator.

Quote: Rs 1,466.37

Estimated Int'l Shipping & handling RS. 1,040.00

Estimated Duty, Taxes & fees RS. 426.37
TOTAL RS. 1,466.37
