I bought external 3.5' IDE to USB 2.0 case (local one) at the price 550/-

- Connected 80GB IDE. (with or without jumper)

- When I connect USB cable to motherboard USB port (rear or front)......Getting message "Device can Perform Faster........."

- Checked the USB in device manager (it's enhanced)

Transfer speed is also very low : 1-2 MB/sec

Is there any problem with case or HDD ??[/B]

Motherboard : MSI 890GXM G65

Are you sure that the casing is usb 2.0, since it is local, the written speed can be fake, try a different drive in the casing.

Also is your hdd healthy? without and bad sectors?

Yes....it's USB 2.0 (wriiten on box as well as on HDD case)..How to check whether case is USB 2.0 or not ?? And how to check health of hdd ??

HDD was working fine in desktop...Was unused for 1month ...After that I bought this case..

If you have a different cable then give it a try, the usb cable from casing to your system

check SMART status using HD tune, and also run check disc command (chkdsk <drive letter>:)

During Startup....I am getting Error

Checking NVRAM........

Samsung HDD Status BAD

Is HDD gone ??

Installing XP......After that...will check using HD Tune

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

I just checked the HDD using HDD Tune....
Health Status : Warning
Spin Up time : Failed
Reallocated Sector Count : Warning
Spin Retry Count : Warning
Reallocated Even Count : Warning
Ultra DMA CRC Error Count : Warning

Sorry to say, seems like the HDD is tossed, is it still in warranty, if yes then send it fro RMA.

BTW was the HDD working fine before attaching it to the casing?

No...its not under Warranty :(

HDD was working fine. While removing cable, 1 pin was damaged causing slow transfer.I got it repaired.

After that, HDD is not used in desktop again (lying unused)

Yesterday, I bought the case to make it External.

Now, I installed XP on it...(Desktop)

^^ Since you haven't tested it before so its difficult to say whether the HDD was faulty from the beginning or it became faulty after using the casing.

You can try with a different HDD.
I guess the HDD was faulty from the beginning, and using a healthy HDD with the casing will result in better data transfer speed. :)

Again, I am getting the same speed with other HDD (1MB/sec or less) :(

Also, with new cable...Same speed :( :(

(How much speed one should get using 2.0 case ? )
