hey guys .. I am using a 17" Philips 107C5 CRT and i wanna know what are the ideal settings for the following stuff :

Brightness , Contrast , 9300k/6500K ??

I have set my contrast at 75 and brightness at 35 ... are these settings okay ?? My eyes getting really hurt and me having headaches these days so just wanted to know are there any ideal settings/rules to be followed while adjusting ur monitor settings ?

Your getting Headaches coz its a CRT.

All CRT's which arent shielded well, or even if they are shielded well, youll get a headache over time.

Your getting Headaches coz its a CRT.

CRTs aren't all that bad....

I often use a CRT @office and spend hours in front of it

It is very likely to be stemming from a low refresh rate setting on your monitor (Graphic properties>settings>Advanced>monitor>screen refresh rate...)

change the monitor refresh rate to at least 75hz

As for brightnes/conrast/color balance, the charts in the attached pdf are a good and simple way to get started

I always set my colour temperature to 9300K. This gives a cool bluish effect which I prefer. Setting it to 6500K is a brownish, earthly, daylight sort of colour. Check both and see what's more comfortable for you.

As far as Brightness and Contrast is concerned, it's generally recommended to set the contrast to near full i.e. 90% and the brightness to the 30-40% mark. If you have Photoshop installed on the machine, check the Adobe Gamma monitor calibration tool in the Windows Control Panel. It takes you through in steps, after which your monitor's perfectly gamma calibrated.

One more thing, when installing your monitor, don't use Windows' 'Plug and Play' driver. Let that be as a fail safe. Installing the correct driver from the monitor disc loads the correct colour profiles i.e. *.icf files, which negates the need for any gamma calibration.

I hope this helped.

lol who said CRT's give headache, the only thing they give is fantastic color reproduction.
Different people have different amounts of tolerance to bright lights.

50% brightness
90-100% contrast
Play with the settings from there...

17" flat CRT at home + 19" LCD at work + avg 15 hours/day in front of them = no headaches. Saumil's right about individuals' tolerance.
