Hi guys
IE, Chrome and YM! arent working AT ALL :( dunno how exactly this happened. i have a feeling it started when i tried to instal Gogole's Voice and Video chat s/w but which never got instaleld completely (and even now, its not installing fully. just installs for some time, then screen disappears)

YM! refuses to let me log in and IE and Chrome display 'cannot display the webpage' error
I tried turning Windows firewall OFF and On,assuming it to be at fault, but no effect.

Whats going on :( Cant find any answers on googling as well :(

i am using Firefox and Opera as alternatives, but i need IE to pay bills to certain online sites like tatindicombroadband.com for example, and i need YM! for webcam chat :(

Please help!!! :'(

TIA!!

Reinstall all the above said applications after uninstalling Google's Voice and Video chat s/w?

On a lighter note, Gogole's seems to be some malware and tatindicombroadband.com doesnt exist : bleh :

Can you ping any web site?

Is your connection functional is other browsers?

If your connection is functional in secure browsers such as FF and Opera, then there is a HUGE chance that it is a Virus/Malware problem.

Try running a through Anti-spyware and Anti-Virus scan.

1. Uninstall the softwares which cease to start except IE. (If for some reason you cant clear/uninstall them use Windows cleanup utility from here

2. Start IE without addons. (Start > programs > Accessories > system tools)

3. Start IE with disabling individual addons. (check for helper addon, if there - disable it as its malware)

4. Delete cookies, delete cache/offline content.

5. Check in add/remove programs if MS .NET framework 3.0 is installed in an order of their versions, if there any. (eg, 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0), if not get the Ms .net 3.0 and just uninstall and reinstall using the msi file.

6. As per Sunnyboi's suggestion, check if the Automatically detect settings is checked and no other proxy options are checked - for this you need to navigate to IE > Tools > Internet options > connections > Lan settings.

7. If the above steps do not work, try to repair IE.
How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer in Windows Vista and Windows XP

8 . If still the same issue, try using system restore.

9. Still the same thing, do a clean windows installation.

10. Phew. :P
@ Shaunak : Why ping the websites when he can access internet using FF?

@ Shaunak : Why ping the websites when he can access internet using FF?

to start with chrome and YM uses IE settings,
so basically look for IE settings errors.

1) if u have firewall, check firewall rules
2) sugg 6 from above quote.

@TheMask: Hmm.. wouldnt work when i checked it a few months ago.

@SunnyBoi: No Proxies set. Just have checked Automatically Detect Settings. :|

BTW nice avatar :P

@XT: Tried after uninstall of google's voice and video chat, but no effect. and i was having a bad day, hence the typos :P

@bottle: that sounds like the tataindicom CC's one-stop-solution to every problem with your computer. restart it.

and tell me here what you would tell me if i came onto yahoo :ashamed:

@PartyMonger: Scanned with a/v.. just quarantined one suspicious file appH.cab , bet even after it was removed, no effect.

@cyberjunkie: tried it witout checking any boxes under LAN settings., and still no effect.

@blackprince: Yeah, i think that IE settings is the issue here as well!

@Jatt.inc: Windows XP. h/w: Measly Intel P4.

@Anish: Phew! Comprehensive set of steps dude!! Thanks for taking the time out to type out the list! In the process of completing all the steps now :)
