IGN Top 100 Games of all time

IGN has posted a list of their top 100 games of all time. The list has been compiled from the votes of members on the IGN boards.

The list is cross platform and spans quite a few years of gaming.

It makes interesting reading ..
1) to see how many of the top titles you have and
2) to see how strange some of the choices are ...

There may be some surprising omissions too !!

I think that's a well done top-100 list.

Though, Mgs3 should've at least made it to top 5 (giving it no.10 is an insult to 'THE' most well rounded, perfectly crafted finale which remains perhaps the most emotional ending in videogame history) And its great to see Re4 there at no.3, and Shenmue 1 should've got a better ranking as well. It was the first of its kind, it invented 'Free-Roaming' in videogames. And kudos to the guy who fed in the summary for Shenmue 2 at rank 16, everything he says is so true.
 
The list is a joke. They actually gave warcraft III a ranks of 90s and UT2004 in 60s. I think majority of the gamers who voted were from US and not from rest of world.
 
Ign forums, you've got a very large crowd here from US, UK and Australia, ranging from hardcore gamers to movie buffs.

And is there a reason UT2k4 or Warcraft should've made it to top10 or is it because those are the only games you've end up playing from the list?

Chaos Theory, God of War and ha-ha-Halo are some of the 20 best games made... ever?
No Doom, no Quake, not even Deus Ex made the list... hah.

And why is Warcraft3 at the bottom of the pile? How is UT2004 present without even an honorouble mention to Q3A (which is still more played)?
Hell where is CS for that matter. It's an overplayed pos but that doesn't take away anything.

Way I see it, this is obviously more 'The best console games ever made' rather than a list of all-time bests.

Half Life 2 on number 13.

Its not done by a bunch of editors you can call 'Biased, but the list was discussed and voted for on the forums. Yeah, you can blame it on popularity. I see Doom at least should've made it for its FPS revolution.

Maybe because its just not as good as some of the games below it? Or Maybe is. Again, popularity has a lot to do with it. The votes were compiled in for a period of 2 years. If those games were that good, they should've massed a fanbase who could've voted for which games they think should make it to the list.
 
AOC not in the list at all..:( Most are console games. But AOC, Warcraft, Q3 Arena, UT2k4, Counter Strike will figure in the top 10 in India atleast..:)

Hey why not have a top 20/25 games survey of our own at TE. After all TE is 10k strong now and represents the cream (or whatever :P ) of the country...;)

What say guyz...:D

Maybe noone but the console gamers bothered to vote? Who knows when Warcraft3 is at the very bottom, Halo at the top and Deus Ex not even present.

You just nailed it in with the hammer, that's true. The stats differ widely in this country.

That's a very good idea, it will reflect India's opinion compared to the rest of the world's.

The votes were open for 2 years...now that's a long time for anyone to vote.

And maybe Deus Ex didn't make it because it was underrated, imo. Though, I agree Warcraft3 or at least World Of Warcraft should've made it. Do those 7 million subscribers online on WoW servers ever get on the internet and talk? That's a huge fanbase plus it was featured in South Park, heh.
 
That list is quite old as I remember. It was in response to an earlier list compiled by the editors of IGN and a damn good list at that. Of course, most newbies who've only been gamers for the past 5 years or so whined about it not having any of their present favourite games. Gamers can be such a fickle bunch.

Through experience I have learnt that Indians have terrible tastes in gaming. I'm not sure I want to have a poll reminding me of that.

Dude Halo is an amazing Game , half of the xbox'es were sold coz of this game ! And play God of war and then comment , u have no idea how good dat game is ! Chaos theory is the best splinter cell game and deserves to be in the Top 20 !
 
When I saw Smackdown @ 96 or 97 I was convinced this is someone's $hitlist created from a bad dream :D

You guys still don't get the fact IGN had absolutely nothing to do with the list. This is Readers choice. The fans voted for their games over 2 years.

Some of the games, like Zelda, really do deserve to be at the top spot. WWE may suck, but its games sure have been leading the beat-'em scene for a long time and coupled with the most advanced "Create-A-..." feature ever in videogames, and its superb 6 player simultaneous play, I see no reason why it should not be on the list.

Meh, crib all you want to, the list reflects the opinion of the gaming fanbase, nothing else. They just happen to be more popular out of practically nowhere, doesn't have to mean they are better than some of your PC gems.

lol Mr. Console fanboi, when you use the terms Top 100 Games of all time, the list is hopeless, ofcoz i dont have a problem if the title was Most Favorite games, Top user picked games or something like that but when u use all time, ur wandering off into uncharted teretory, atleast with that list :lol:
