IMHO, It's not really shocking. Something like this should have been expected. For the last 6 months or so, Bangalore atleast has been on high alert when it comes to terrorist strikes. There were apparent threats made to software firms operating out of Bangalore. The delhi blasts prompted the Bangalore City Police to make statements claiming "Stepped up security in the state". Now, i have a couple of questions.
After the Bangalore police made these claims, what kind of additional security was put into place ? Yes, i've seen this additional security standing in the form of 3 police constables outside the Dell office in Bangalore. One of them armed with an ancient single shot rifle, and the others with lathis. A stone would be enough to knock the three out, leave alone AK-47s and grenades.
The seminar at IISc was high profile one. If the police did have warnings of terrorist strikes, why wasn't the campus given additional security ?
The attack at IISc took place between 6.45PM and 7.15PM. As of 10PM, CNN IBN and NDTV claimed that the police did not know whether the attackers were still in the IISc campus, or fled. Now i agree the IISc campus is big, but don't tell me that it isnt possible to mobilize a large number of Law and order cops, City Armed Reserve cops, personnel from CISF to patrol the campus and search.
Finally, CM dharam singh decided to visit the Institute now. Get this, the cops have no clue if the attackers are still on campus; the cops retrieved live grenades from the attack spot, along with an AK-47. Anyone considered that they could still be on campus with explosives, waiting for this fatso to come along ?
