I think buying EEE PC ATM is a risk ,as they are experimenting with different architectures (atom) ,sizes options(SSD) etc.

I also is a aspiring buyer(due to GNU/Linux obviously!it owns!) :P .but ,will wait till asus settle down with EEE pc.it is something like early versions of N95 ,I feel(flop ,then better) :D

Settle down ? I dont think thats ever going to happen with Asus. Its business and personally speaking Asus is going over the top by releasing a new model every two months. Something tells me this is not going to stop. You buy today, there will be a newer model after 3 months. So you cant possibly consider this as a decision making factor :)

^what about their shifted to atom ,while in India ,we have the same old model :x ?

personally ,I am all for more GB's of SSD :D

bah :@ as usual India is the last country they ll launch in after exhausting stocks :P

The 9" Celeron based one was never launched here either.....

The Atom is the future...for now at least ;)

I saw the TZ ad in The Hindu long time back; they've plans to launch it here it appears [or did it launch?? I'm out of synch with laptops ATM] and once it does, it'd be close to the 100grand price tag;

It's been available in India for some time

IIRC, I saw a TZ in the display window at Laptop Plus in Spencers over 6 months ago

Think it's priced arnd the 1.2L price mark

I am not a Lapop expert like you :P But if I were you I would certainly go for EEE PC or something similar like Acer One or MSI Wind ,, [Wind gets a big No No from my side as it doesn't allow to choose Linux as Main OS] ..

Save money and wait for Montevina aka Centrino 2 or Puma based Laptops :D:ohyeah:

think Sanity will prevail over temptation

The EEE901 and 900 both seem good enough though of course , the TZ's screen will be missed :(

here's some more food for thought...

To tell you the truth, I love my gadgets the way a kid loves his toys..which also (unfortunately) means that my attention span for my new toys is just a wee bit more than a kid has for his new toys

So if I save up a 60K on a notebook, I can go spend it on other toys too

Getting back to the topic, as much as I love the TZ, I really cannot justify spending 5X the money of a EEE 901 or the Wind on it.

If I had to use the EEE/Wind as my primary notebook, the TZ would have won hands down, but if it is a combination of a 12.1" machine rated say 8/10 in processing power/features + a 9" machine rated 3/10 vs. a 11.1" rated 6/10 (albeit a supremely attractive 11.1"er, I think the former combination is the winner for me..

The other factor that has been on my mind is the fact that if I pick the wind/eee, I can just throw it in my rucksack or the lady's handbag when out travelling and would not think twice about whipping it out to chck my e-mail while sitting on a beach without worrying about the salt water and the sand

With the INR100,000 TZ, I'll have to treat it with kid gloves

anyway, I still have time till the weekend to decide

Maybe I''ll go take a alook at the TZ again in person to decide if the oomph factor on the machine is high enough to swing the decision in its favor
