incorrect data transfer speed with pendrives in windows7

i have noticed a problem in windows7 wherein data transfer speed shown while copying files like movies etc. to a pendrive is very high initially like 60-65MBPS but later the speed drops and at the end it gets stuck showing 5 secs remaining but actually it takes another 15-20 sec to complete transfer.
anyone else experiencing this? and yes i am using genuine windows7.

I have a sandisk 4gb micro drive and experience this issue. This is not the problem with windows 7. Its the problem with those BS sandisk drives. Recently i read some reviews about the sandisk micro blade. Even they have slow transfer issues. What drive do you have ?

1. just now installed teracopy and copied some movies to pendrive, the data got transferred at constant speed of 10MB/sec.

2. Then copied the same movies directly without using teracopy and the data got transferred in exactly the same time(70 sec) but as told earlier it started at 55-60 MB/sec and gradually the speed decreased and at the end it got stuck at 5 sec remaining for good 20-25 sec and the data transfer got completed in exactly 70 sec.

tested with 2 micro drives & 3 different cards,

I also am puzzled with this problem, it starts copying at 25mbps then will start falling & falling & will come down to 10-12mbps.

I tried many different file formats just to test, the fastest are avi files & I get a speed of 14mbps though it starts copying at 30mbps.

What is making this speed reported so high then fall it almost half is a mystery to me too & would like to seek an answer for this problem.

At last, someone reporting the same problem, i thought i was the only one with this unique windows 7 feature:P
i have used this pen drive on my old laptop with windows XP without any problem.

60-65mbps is definitely a computational error ...determine if the port or the usb device is v1.0 or 1.1 since it may not be v2.0 standard. If that's the cause determine if the correct usb drivers are installed.

Do I need to install separate USB drivers? never did so except the motherboard chipset drivers. MY usb ports & CF card reader & usb drives are all v2.0

speed might drop for other reason

I would like to know those reasons if you can tell us.

Well, its just a kind of bug which is still left in the final release of windows 7.

If you had tried the beta and the RC edition of Windows 7, then you would not have been asking this question(just joking!!!!!).

Well its not just the pendrive, if you observe carefully, then this thing actually happen with your hard drive also.

Copying/moving a big file(more than 1-2 GB), normally the transfer starts at 120-130 MBps(i've even seen more than 300MBps) then it drops to regular rate of 50-60 MBps.

Its basically the delay in displaying the results.Actually the transfer starts immediately when we give the command, but the transfer window pane comes after a delay of 1-2 secs. And on that pane the transfer speed comes with another delay of a sec.

So to balance that delay, the speed is shown as 120-130MBps or in pendrives as 50-60MBps but in reality the speed is just 10-12MBps(or actual speed of your pendrive).

So,teracopy is a better option to actually judge the transfer rate of your pendrives or hard drive as it gives and optimum and accurate speed.

you are right, its windows 7 which is showing incorrect speeds because as mentioned above the transfer speeds shown by teracopy is constant and doesnt vary unlike windows 7 showing 50-60MB/sec then reducing to 10-15MB/sec.
