Increasing amount of spam on Live Messenger?

This problem is escalating on a daily basis. On an average, I get 2 friend requests from spambots everyday.
I think some douche entered my id on a spam mailing list.

Anyone else facing the same issue? It's beginning to get very annoying!
There's no option to block such invitations at the root either, you can block them only when you receive the invitation. Ofcourse, this only keeps it from receiving another invitation from the same address again, which isn't much use since spambots can keep registering any number of ids.

For a moment there I thought this was a [How to] thread!

Not only on live messenger, I am getting such friend requests and messages on skype as well! I don't think there is any other way to combat it except ignore, block and report abuse from such accounts.

You're better off, about a week ago, I'd get around 10 invitations everyday. I declined them all and reported them as spam, I'd suggest you do the same.

For me it stopped, hope it does for you too.

And the same happened on Skype too, but not with such frequency.

High time u should switch to yahoo/skype :baby:
Yahoo is the king of random encounters and spimming. It doesn't even send you an invitation, instead you just directly receive the spam message.

I do not use this client, so cannot try. Please ignore these two tips if you have tried them all ready. Here are the links.

My clients are already configured as such. Those settings only keep you from directly receiving the spam messages (Yahoo style), unfortunately you still receive a friend request wherein you have to block that sender, once for every new id the spammers create. Very annoying :@.

Sign onto hotmail.com. Goto options. Manage options for your Public Profile.

The damn thing is like Orkut and Facebook unless permissions are properly managed. Change privacy options on this page.

Its found here..

Welcome to Windows Live
Another thing would be to goto Filters and Reporting in options....-----> Choose a junk e-mail filter-------> Set it to Exclusive. If you do set this option, Everything is sent to the junk e-mail folder except messages from your contacts and safe senders, Windows Live Hotmail service announcements, and alerts that you signed up for.

Hopefully no disturbing idiots from now on. :hap2:

Kaspersky Internet Security is also good to keep your pc safe although its not related to this particular query :)

I too had a lot of MSN contacts, but I guess with the mess it is everyone is migrating. Its so freaking worse on third party clients like pidgin etc, I kept getting that wanna have sex... message and it freaking randomly popped up while folks were on comp!!!

Rofl, that's one of the reasons I stopped using Miranda. Atleast the native client provides the option to block all communication with contacts not on your list.
