Anybody knows what happened to jatropha seed derived biodiesel and ethanol additives to petrol? Why it hasn't taken place?

Or is it just brain dead gov again?

BTW how genuine is proposition of increasing diesel prices to reduce its use for gensets? They don't run it by choice. They run it becoz of obligation and limitations of electricity. And who guarantees that they can't source diesel as retail/ cheaper prices otherwise?

On a side note, do u guys read books/ articles by sandeep waslekar? It worth reading and knowing about what this person has exposure to.

And this idea of not selling fuel at night, i bet must have come from brilliant Rahul. I doubt congress has anyone that much competent to come up with such a great idea.

The diesel we get in retail is subsidized diesel. They buy Brent oil at market rates (at present its usd120 per barrel) and sell it around 50$ I think to companies. The rest of cost is taken by govt. The main reason diesel is subsidized is majority of our countries transport runs on road network. Trucks use diesel the max. Any rise in the prices will directly affect the prices of each and everything transported by road by a lot. If diesel was unsubsidized, it would cost around the same as petrol costs now per liter.

Private car owners, housing societies and malls can do without subsidy since it not necessary for them as much as its necessary for trucks. Plus they are quite rich and it won't affect them as much as it would affect, say farmers & transport companies.

So probably, I'm guessing diesel may be sold to some targeted sectors only at subsidized rates in coming days. Others may need to buy it at actual cost.
