I think this is really stupid. How would this be different from state sponsored terrorism? Sponsoring does not have to mean that the govt funds their activities directly. Providing a safe haven is also a kind encouragement.

I can deduce the messed up logic behind this. If they had involved in such activities in India, they would be seen as criminals, but since their activities are in another country, it is alright to let them go with some therapy.

If this is alright by our standards, then what right does Indian govt and people have to crib about Pakistan not punishing the paki citizens who carry out terror attacks in India. If India intends to let these people come back without severe consequences, it would by all means be sponsoring terrorism just like Pak.

It is a tricky situation really.
There are things which need to be carefully understood and monitored. I am afraid the whole thread will take a communal turn if the intricacies are discussed, but i still think an open negative stance by the Govt for such people will be a bad idea.

I guess you guys haven't come across past instances where indian govt pardoned terrorists who surrendered on their own. This isis case is no different than those instances where govt thought it'd be better to rehabilitate youths gone astray than to punish them.

The thing is these guys have direct experience in hot zones. Very desirable for any terrorist outfit for their experience & dedication.

If the govt loses track of them, the bombs we saw going off earlier will become much more effective. They have to be monitored and not scared off. Its a gamble. we do not have a terrorist agency in the country, that is on par with equivalents abroad. Chidambaram tried to set one up in 2009 but the states pretty much killed it. We hare facing this with hands tied behind out back.

AQ has a problem with ISIS. ISIS is a new brand that competes with AQ for world domination. The worst kind of communalism is going on in Iraq & Syria between Sunni & Shia. This is an intra-jihadi thing. With one side saying if you don't do as i tell you then you are not a muslim to begin with.

The two schools of thought here are Zarqawi style vs maktisi (or old school jihadi).

Its not about therapy but about keeping tabs on those that went abroad and getting the community to assist with local intel. Have to monitor them and apprehend them before they get up to no good. can't see any other way.

And if its ok to commit terrorism abroad then we condone the same in India. What is the difference.

Powerful argument you make here.

The word / concept: humanitarian is a bastardization of an excuse to dish out justice. EU / North America thrive on this, and now it is permeating into India.

They can probably be declassified and deradicalised after a hefty dose of Sodium Amtyal and some questioning.
