I can understand the deportation part but so badly being treated,

Chained for 40 hours, after much request only they getting to go to the toilet.

They aren't criminals for god sake. Maybe some of them may have some record their but 90% were just normal people chasing better life.

Where is basic Human rights ..Americans keep giving the world lessons on.

They all were illegal immigrants.
Unsure why its getting so hype in Mainstream News
Yes they were illegal and they are being deported. Fair enough and India has accepted them.

I am talking about basic humane treatment. I am not saying they should be send in business class.

Not even being allowed to go to the toilet.

Shashi Tharoor is making a valid point here.

IMO - As @Futureized points out, they are illegal immigrants, they should be glad that they are getting a free ride home instead of being put in a prison. A C-17 seat costs a lot more than the a business class seat on a commercial airline, the ill treatment is for optics, to both deter other individual illegal immigrants from considering a backdoor entry, and to cause political embarrassment to the host country so that they clamp down on agents facilitating it.

They have had the same protocol of deporting illegals for decades and to all the Countries.
If it is how they do it for all countries then it has to be accepted ..I guess.

But really makes me think if India should also start deporting some illegal Americans same way ( I am sure there will be some here too).

US can deport them however they want, but releasing the video is done clearly to show their people that we are sending these dangerous people away.

Also I feel the Indian government should have asked US to not release the humiliating video, but it seems the new US government doesn't have a good relation with Indian goverment, or maybe doing propaganda is too important for them to care.

Also not sure why the plane didn't land in New Delhi but in Amritsar. Seems overall spineless behaviour from Indian government. If they have to deport some American guy they will probably buy him a ticket on Air India.

someone who broke rules, why are we asking how they are treated? they are being treated as criminals. - shouldn't they be treated as one?

All things considered, they got off pretty easy for an illegal activity. Every country treats illegal immigrants as criminals. At least they managed to reach home within a respectable amount of time, unlike what happens in India.

word on the grapevine is that punjab police with counter intel unit who have a list of some most wanted criminal fugitives (khalikhopdistanis among them) will be awaiting them there at the airport for their 'welcome' home.

If that is the case punjab police is the last force government will trust, Delhi would have been the better location than given NSA/CBI can do their thing without interference.

Looks like they treat all illegal migrants similarly ? Heard that some infamous case were a diplomat was deported, she was treated the same way, so illegals got off better. Delaying wash room access, etc. is inhumane indeed.
Lot of Indians have a addictive fanboism towards some foreign countries, let them taste a slice of the very culture they clamored.
Argument is that, what if somebody went wild onboard considering the plight they are in, etc.
Moreover, considering there are several hundred thousands, it would've been better for USA to utilize a ship.

Big L to people supporting this. Yes they were illegal migrants but not criminals. They could have been sent on commercial planes and under security. Its not like they were carrying arms.
Another option & a better one would have been that India send out our planes to bring them back like few other countries did. But that will damage the ruling party's image it seems

Apparently, there are ~18k on hold, above 7.5L illegal Indians there.
Cost involved sending flights for this will be unbearable for Indian govt.
Would've been better for USA to utilize ships for this purpose.
dtrump may be probably using this as a deterrent, will wind down eventually after some 'deals'.

You have no idea. This cost is nothing compared to what the Indian govt spends. We too have such military planes which can transport many people together. That is a bad excuse
Why bother when USA is doing it for free. Nevertheless, these 'illegal migrants' spent millions to reach their dream destination, will they spend a single shilling if India asked ?

"Honourable members are aware that people to people exchanges constitute the bedrock of our deepening ties with the United States. Indeed, more than any other relationship, mobility and migration has had a key role to play its quality. Sir, the House would also share the view of the government that it is in our collective interest to encourage legal mobility and discourage illegal movement," said the foreign affairs minister in upper house of Parliament.
that is the likely reason.

that is the likely reason.
So according to our minister this is for the optics so as to deter illegal immigration?
Then why not publicize it widely on television? I heard media houses were told not to show this on TV because I haven't seen much coverage on this .
+ I don't care what jayshankar says lol. He's a weak FM infront of Trump. Big words, no action.
