A recurrent theme in the findings is the shunning of a people once called “untouchables” at workplaces, schools, romantic relationships and houses of worship.

Two-thirds of the Dalit respondents, for example, said they had experienced “caste discrimination” where they had worked —perpetrated by other people of south Asian descent. Not surprisingly, just over half the Dalits reported they were doing what African-Americans would call “passing”, hiding their caste identity.

Caste bias has survived in America, despite the country’s egalitarian creed, because immigrant communities of all kinds can and do retain some of their traditional practices. Civil rights laws do not explicitly ban discrimination based on caste. It was not seen as an issue in America when those laws were written.

Dear Americans, Start kicking these casteist Indians out of there and save yourselves...

Casteism is very dangerous than the White-Black discrimination.

My sister has seen this live when she was working with Infosys in US. It was not just upper caste vs lower caste either. Many of her Indian colleagues used to form caste wise groups. Everything from going to lunch together to Invitation to children birthday parties were kept limited inside these groups. Some managers (not my sister's) showed favoritism to employees of their own caste. It was actually much more than what what she saw at Infy in India. She ultimately got so disgusted by it that it became one of the key reasons for her leaving the company.

Being from telanaga , I have a lot of friends in USA and this is absolutely true. Many of them join Reddy, Kamma whatnot caste groups on FB here in india itself. And once they reach US, they go meet and minglle with their own caste groups and not from other indians/telangana people

disgusting really.

You just copy/pasted entire content from another site ?
Where are your verdicts on same ?

Plagiarism ?[DOUBLEPOST=1522321611][/DOUBLEPOST]ITs not caste its cast !!!!

It's part of the text from article posted along with the link to the article. Just the crux for people who don't have time to go though entire article.

Plagiarism? One has to be retarded to call it plagiarism when the attribution link is just above the text..

Secondly, why should I post any verdicts? Is that mandatory to create a thread? You realize that there are many information posts with just a article link and text form it without personal opinions in the starting post?

Lastly, are you mad about something in the article or the article itself? You posted something earlier that got deleted. Well, I sincerely hope its not because its talking about behaviors you might condone.

ITs not caste its cast !!!!

Interestingly, the earliest attempts of Indians in getting citizenship in US involved drawing parallels between race discrimination in US and caste system in India. Folk from perceived higher castes like Brahmans and others make a case in US supreme court that their high caste made them Caucasian and hence eligible for naturalization. At the time, there were restrictions to prevent non-whites from gaining naturalization in US.

been living outside India for a while now. personally, I've not seen it with anyone. guess I don't hang around Indians so much. but yes, Indians want to be around Indians only. when Larry tells me that I don't hang around with Indians a lot, I would reply; "if I wanted to to be with Indians, I would be in India. right?"

to be honest, I haven't seen anyone talking about caste. or asking me which caste I belong to. I think people don't have time for that BS.

^Are you working? All my friends are Mtech students and caste decides which apartments they lease/which roommates they get/ which jobs get get referred too. Ofcourse Im not saying each and every student does this but as I mentioned earlier, kamma, kapu ,reddy, chowdary from andhra/telanaga etc all follow rampant casteism in USA

When i was abroad i mixed with everyone but Indians. You get roped in at some point though

South Indians are favorites in doing groupism even in India esp. in IT. In contrast, West and North Indians act very sensibly and mix up good with any caste and creed and even include people from all religions in their groups. In short they are very cool and have a truly open group. Gujus, marwaris, marathis, sindhis, punjabis, haryanvis, bhaiyas, biharis and even eastern people etc mix very well with no ego attitude and speak hindi.
South Indians will go with their tulu mallu accent within themselves which itself starts discrimination as the opp doesnt understand a damn shit of it and the poor fella himself separates from their group.

^^ That's not true. caste, region and race/skin color based discrimination exists very much in the northern parts of India. For example, "Bihari" is literally a word used as an abuse in Delhi/Haryana regions. I have seen it used in Punjab too. Delhi in particular is a cesspool of discrimination against folk from North eastern states and also foreigners with skin colors that are both darker and whiter than themselves. I have also read in some article that as per NCRB statistics, close to 64% of all crime like murder, rapes and torture in Rajasthan are caste linked and against lower castes. Punjab too has its fair share of discrimination.

Groupism and discrimination is present in North too though in a different manner than south. In fact, even among people speaking Hindi, accent is a common criteria for mocking each other. Mocking foreigners while referring to them with words like "gora" and "kala" is also common and often done right in their faces because they cannot understand the language.

Mutual respect is a concept alien to many Indians be it North or south.

Please follow that online too.

End of the day. Indians are stupid, and carry their stupidity where ever they go. Just avoid them.

Have heard things like "Ek Bihari Sau bhimari" ... Do Bihari Ladai ki taiyari, Teen Bihari train hamari and paanch Bihari to sarkar hamaari"

So much hatred huh?
