I like lots of members have always had a feeling about bad service being rendered to INTERNET users by Indian ISP,s and came across this comparative chart about National Download Speed Index world wide.
Well guys every one’s fears are correct.
India despite its brags about being a IT superpower, stands a lofty 129th out of 162 countries worldwide. It has only failed countries like Zimbabwe, Afghanistan etc below it.
Now that the onus is on the National Governments to provide the Fundamental Right of Broadband Access to its citizens to better their lives- How Indian Govt works in quite evident from this chart.
When an organisation like BSNL is the primary ISP in India-only GOD can help us. So much for the so called- Government that works!

Come on India,Here BB speed is way too low. What a blast the others might be having speeds of 30mbps and all.We can not even dream of such speeds and even if we do so,the next day we might dream of the bill. Lolz.

well i do agree the broadband in India is pathetic but i think the logic behind such lists is flawed .... a much better analysis should be broadband density and speed per say million people..... i am sure India will rank a lot less... broadband is infrastructure and for a small country this means infrastructure investment to a small amount of people so a small country can probably provide such infrastructure much faster then say a country like India.

This is probably much better explained if you look at the top 10 in that list.

^ Nope... Korea was the highest bandwidth available for consumer internet... so it kinda makes sense for it to be on top, however, I do agree that Japan seems seemingly lower than expected.

Regardless, I am fine with that kinda speed... all I have to do now is find a nice Korean or Japanese chick and move there... :P

Seriously 1.33 mbps, I was on 400 kbps till a month back, and being a techie I thought I will be above the normal curve :)

The least we could do is be happy with what we have. What if we were still using those dial up connections with retarded modems!

so true, how many have even 1mbps speed???

they would have included organisations and schools, universities!

From 2003 to 2008 I had Reliance 75kbps wired UL BB connection and from 2008 to till now I have 256kbs UL BB connection.

The worst thing is the CC service of most of the ISP India.

They(ISP) are pathetic,I mean they will make ur life miserable.....

^ I agree... customer care is almost non-existent in most of the places.

Your chronology of your connection reminds me of my bandwidth evolution. :P

from 1997 to 1999 : 46kbps dial-up

from 1999 to 2000 : 56kbps dial-up

from 2000 to 2001 : Dishnet DSL 128kbps

from 2001 to 2003 : Local cablewalla 128kbps

from 2003 to 2004 : Local cablewalla 64kbps

from 2004 to 2006 : Local cablewalla 128kbps

from 2006 to 2007 : Local Cablewalla 256kbps

from 2007 to 2008 : Local Cablewalla 512kbps

from 2008 to 2009 : MTNL Triband 256kbps/ 2MBPS UL night + Local Cablewalla 256 as backup plan

from 2009 to 2010 : MTNL Triband 1mbps UL, later towards the end of the year 2009 upgraded to MTNL Triband 2mbps UL plan + Local cablewalla 1mbps backup plan

Since almost a month now MTNL has updated my plan for 1mbps upstream (which was earlier mere 256kbps for upstream). Although I don't get 1MBPS for upstream, I do get about 800-850kbps tops which is tons better than measly 256kbps of earlier. So I think I might remove the local cablewalla 1mbps plan, as "1mbps on both upstream and downstream simultaneously" was the main reason I kept that connection. Since MTNL uptime is very very strong in my area, there isn't much reason for it to be there. :)

God... yet I'm still bickering about net speed... Enough is never enough, as they say. :P

At least we have the net. With our ministers and government's paranoia never know what they might do. Though I agree with iGo, customer care does not exist. Similar to taking any service in India. Extremely painful, just as unsatisfactory.

lol...anyone saw this??
