Info request - Samsung LA32C550 v/s the LA32C590

Hi folks,

Has anybody come across the C590 series any information regarding its performance would be appreciated.

From the tech specs alone, i found the following differences.
a) The C590 has better sound compared to the C550 series
b) The C590 has a matt finished screen v/s the C550's glossy screen
c) The difference in their MRPs ... The C590 is costing only a 1,000 more than the C550.

C550 does not have a glossy panel. Did you go by the image on the website? The C650 (termed ultra clear panel by Samsung) and the LED backlit displays have a glossy panel. Both the C550 and the C590 have matte-finished panels.

There are several other minor differences as well. No ethernet port at the back means you cannot stream any media from your PC/laptop/NAS. An HDMI and USB port is missing on the C590 - lesser connectivity options if you are looking to connect consoles, HD DTH STB and so forth. And there seems to be no mention of the contrast ratio either. This panel seems to be a cheap competitor for the LG's displays which offers a better SQ compared to other displays. Ideally it should have been cheaper than the C550 but no clue about the market pricing. Did you inquire about the ongoing market pricing for the C590?

You are right about me going just by the pics posted in the samsung website. Good to know that both are matt finish. I looked up the ethernet function you mentioned and its quiet impressive. I could improve my sound output by connecting a home theater, but there is nothing i can do if the C590 turns out to be a No Show when it comes to input lags and other stuff like contrast ratio and the blacks reproduction.

I googled the C590 before i finally hit the fourm for help. Google has nothing on the C590, so i'll stay away from it and look elsewhere... C550 for starters.

C590 off my list now.

^I'd advise you to stay away from C590 as well - besides the panel lottery it is possible that the TV may have a panel from a 3rd grade manufacturer such as the ones found on the Sony BX lineup. I haven't seen one in person either so this could possible be a new model from Samsung. Surprisingly, Samsung has quietly managed to withdraw the 40 incher LA40C530 from their website.

The ethernet port at the back is a blessing in disguise! I have my lcd connected to my pc (and netbook sometimes) and it streams the media without a fuss. I have encountered very few format incompatibility issues but leaving that aside, this is a very good addition to the Samsung lineup. Very easy to setup as well - I have the guide put up in the other thread. Just in case!
